The legacy and ACT score are to your advantage. You have a good chance

Do colleges really care if your uncle or grandfather attended? I was under the impression that legacy was only relevant if it was a sibling or parent.

I could see it going either way, vandy is pretty numbers oriented I think, so that gpa may not be in your favor but everything else looks really good. Good luck!

@Qwerty568 that could definitely be the case, I haven’t done my research on their legacy policy so I’m not quite sure

Are my ECs good for vanderbilt though? Or at least average?

They’re fine but scattered, so hopefully you were able to create a complete picture of you from them.

You have good leadership in extracurricular activities, but I do agree with collegebobollege in that your personality isn’t really captured through your activities. Your academic profile is pretty good… do you go to a competitive/ tough grading school? If so, colleges will know that. If you do well on your AP’s, that shows that colleges understand that your teachers were harsh graders, but that you still know the material. Good ACT score and seems like your letters of rec and your essay aren’t something you need to worry about.

@doglover803 @collegebobollege i think that my EC’s/work experiences/summer activities in addition to my essays show a pretty strong interest in investing/business. I didn’t say it in the description but the Student Investment Club I founded invests real money in the stock market. That club was also the main topic of my common app essay. And yes I would consider my school a competitive school (granted not competitive enough to totally dismiss my low GPA) and we tend to send a lot of kids to Vanderbilt each year if that means anything. Thanks!

@doglover803 @collegebobollege I also forgot to mention under ECs that I was a member of my school’s stock market club in 9th and 10th grade if that helps solidify my interest in investing.

I sort of see that, but it does seem kind of scattered still. For me, I had 3 main areas: Jewish youth stuff, science, and music, with awards and leadership in all of them. Not saying you need that, but that’s what worked for me haha

@collegebobollege are you going to vandy?

I just got in ED1 (:

@collegebobollege Congrats! Hope to see you there next year!

So I’ve really only gotten 1 straightforward answer, anyone else care to chance me?

Your interests and portrayal and involvement in them are outstanding and will definitely help you! The legacy is also a great addition. The only thing I would have to mention is that your GPA is very low. But your ACT score is high; maybe you could have done well on the SATs too. I had the opposite problem - my GPA was high but my standardized test scores were low and I got into my number one school early decision which was a great surprise! Best of luck to you!!!

@smileyface74123 thanks for the insight!
