Your test scores are way to low for Brown, and even a bit for Northwestern and Vanderbilt. Also, the GPA is on the low side and even the ECs aren't too great. With that being said, Brown is pretty big reach and the other two are lower reaches.

Wow sak09, way to just burst nizzle927's bubble. Your evaluation is wrong in many ways. First of all, his GPA is not on the low side. His class rank is 60/950, which is the top 6% of his class. So compared to his classmates, he is doing relatively well in school. Also, his ECs are fine. Not many students create their own club like Model UN, which is a very prestigious club. Plus he is an alll-state debater. If at all, his only weak point is his SAT score, but his grades and ECs make up for that. Here are more realistic chances:
Brown - Reach (ivies are reaches for everyone)
Northwestern - Low Reach/High Match
Vanderbilt - Match

Wow yeah the blog is what gets me. I think if it were MIT or another math/science oriented school, it would nearly get you in. They realize that not everyone is the best at taking tests. Founding MUN is awesome (I love being in that). I think it is possible for all of them, but one can never be sure with all the highly-qualified applicants Ivies get every year - just make sure your essay is superb and interesting, not a laundry list, and not too formal, and MAKE SURE IT TELLS THEM SOMETHING THEY DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU!!!

School %chance of acceptance
NWestern 40%
Brown 35%
Vandy 55%

None are what you'd call safeties, so make sure you apply to some easier schools, but I wouldn't be surprised if you got into at least one of these three.

UCB is not a safety for OOS kids, but worth applying there (your shots are roughly the same as at Northwestern or Brown). UCLA is a good match, and USCD could be a good safety.

i think you will be in at northwestern and maybe brown, but your grades and sats are fine. but your ec curriculars are a little weak. i mean i look at you and say you are going into politics. that's it. vanderbilt wants the athletes more rounded. ucla is also like vanderbilt. you can probably get into ucb.

^ I disagree with the comment about the ECs. They are focused on one or two things and high levels of achievement have been reached in those areas of interest. I think this is what Vandy, NW, Brown, and UCB/UCLA/UCSD are looking for.
Also, UCB is harder to get into than UCLA, and UCB and Vandy are on about the same level of admissions difficulty, so if I am interpreting your comment right then I would disagree and say the OP will have better shots at UCLA than at UCB, IMO.
