vanderbilt is my dream school but i know it’s a reach. is there anything i can do to improve my chances??
I am a white, female from an average part of maryland. i am 2nd gen

- musician in my community
- key club
- board member of the swim team for my swim club
- JV soccer, 2 years

- track and field 1 year
i also will have taken 9 APs by the end of senior year. I plan on passing all of them, and I have passed the tests for the ones I have already taken. freshman and sophomore GPAs are 3.8 UW and 4.2 W. I plan to major in cognitive studies, psych, neuroscience.
In order to increase your chances, you’re definitely going to have to apply Early Decision (binding) if you have no financial concern. If you do, I would not recommend this. Vanderbilt cares A LOT about standardized test scores. Right now, your score is below their 25th percentile. Their range is 1480-1590, so you’re definitely going to have to retake your SAT to get in that range or at least closer to it. All of your other qualifications are solid. If this was a different school, I would tell you not to focus so much on the test score, but with Vanderbilt it’s crucial. Good luck!
