Junior Year I took Honors Chem and AP Micro. Senior year I am taking AP Macro and AP Chem. I am taking Spanish all four years of high school. So obviously I screwed up my Freshman year. Do you think I still have a shot? Will they see a major upward trend in my GPA, and schedule difficulty, and accept me based on the person I currently am, and forget about what I did Freshman year?

ECs: FBLA since 10th grade; Key club since 10th grade, will be an officer this year, 4 years of baseball, this year Varsity, at a group 4 New Jersey school with close to 3000 kids. I also play recreational basketball.

Letters of Rec: My great uncle is on the board at Villanova, AP Micro teacher. I am trying to go to the business school there. Also will they kind of "overlook" my cumulative GPA seeing as it does not represent the person I currently am? Thanks everyone.

Freshmen year is always not as important as the latter 2 years, but it is still considered. I know that some schools completely omit freshmen year. Do some research and find out how much Villa weighs it.

your scores look great for Villa… I think you’ll slide in.

Bump. Can you please also include some good business schools that I can get into? Thanks. I’ll gladly chance back if you leave a link.

I think that freshman GPA does not matter much…also if you write some of reasons for low freshman GPA in additional information section, admission officers will consider your excuses…
I think you have done decent ECs, so you have great chances to get into Villa…!!

very good chances of getting into nova…
it’s ok that your gpa was lower in the beginning of hs because admissions officers look to see if there’s an upward trend and growth.

I think the frosh GPA shouldn’t count against you too too much, it’s the trend you’re looking for. Your ECs are good, SATs are definitely above average for nova. I think you should be fine (i’m from Southeast PA, and a lot of kids from my school apply to nova, and i’ve known plenty who have gotten in with scores considerably lower than yours). One question, though- are the GPAs you provided weighted or unweighted?

The GPA is unweighted. Can you guys also recommend some good business schools that I can get into? Preferably in the Northeast, and I will not go out to California.

If you are set on business and want a good business school around the same area that you can get into I can through out Babson for you. It specializes in business and entrepeneurship. University of Richmond a little farther south has a pretty good undergraduate business program as well.

With your scores I say you’re in at all three of those schools (Nova, Babson, Richmond).
