Chance me for Virginia Tech?

Hey guys! I am so nervous about VT esp after not hearing back about admissions today. I was hoping you guys could chance me for Virginia tech! Here are my stats:
White female from NOVA
Major: Human development then get my MAT in elementary education
GPA: 3.869
SAT: Reading:630 Math:570 Writing:540
Pre AP: Earth Science, World History, Bio, French 3 (had to drop french after because the teacher left), English 9 and 10 (I might be forgetting some but idk)
AP’s: 6 (APUSH, AP Psych, APHG, APCG, AP Lit, AP Lang)
Work: 3 jobs (full time nanny, usher and dress consultant)
Dual Enrollment: I have taken a dual enrollment class related to my intended major
I have 12 clubs (including NHS BETA and others with a minimum GPA requirement and teacher rec)
Played violin for 6 years
Took 2 online classes over the summer
3 sports (rec soccer rec gymnastics and badminton)
Over 600 hours of volunteer service
I am a legacy (my brother went there)
I wrote all 3 possible essays
The biggest thing other than my scores that would hold me back is that I am not very strong in math. I am in Algebra 2 as a senior which is rough.

VT is DEFINITELY my top top top choice but I really don’t know if my stats and stuff are good enough. What do you think?

Forgot to say but I am in the top 20% of my class

If you go here: http://www.ir.vt.edu/work_we_do/demo_enroll/admission/studentAdmission.html

And go to “entering freshman profile by cohort” and noodle around you can see a breakdown of SAT and GPA for your major. I’m guessing you will at least get into University Studies if you picked it as a back up. You then just take what a freshman in your preferred major would take and change majors sophomore year.

I probably should’ve told you what my ECs were

  1. NHS senior year
  2. Theater (over 10 shows and awarded one of the best actresses in the state) 4 years
  3. 6 years of violin
  4. A club to help special needs students- founding member 10th to 12th
  5. Key club- all 4 years
  6. BETA Club- 10th 11th 12th
  7. FCCLA- founding member 11th and 12th grade
  8. Red Cross Youth Corps- 6th to 12th
  9. Volunteering at a homeless shelter- 10th 11th 12th
  10. Advocacy Club- I started this culb 11th and 12th
  11. Volunteering at elementary schools- founding member 10th 11th 12th
  12. Key Club Leadership Board- founding member 12th grade
  13. Hosted a foreign exchange student- summer going into 10th grade
I think I might have had a few more that I put down but I can’t remember. Plus I have 3 sports and 3 jobs. Needless to say, I have kept pretty busy!!!

Thank you!!!

While your SAT composite of 1740 isn’t necessarily competetive for VT, your GPA, APs, and ECs (which particularly amaze me) are! My pals who also applied to VT (albeit OOS from NJ) got in with lower GPAs (~3.5-3.6) and similar SAT (1700-1800s) got in. They didn’t have nearly as many ECs as you did though. Since you’re a strong student and a VA resident, I see no reason as to why they wouldn’t accept you.

Good luck!

You have strong grades, and excellent extracurriculars, I would say you have a very strong chance of acceptance.

Thank you! Hopefully I do!

Thank you! Might I ask where your pals are from? I hear each region of VA has slightly different stats

@Alex99 “While your SAT composite of 1740 isn’t necessarily competetive for VT…”

Actually she’s above the 75th percentile for the HD major. Look it up on the link I gave above. I can’t figure out why she wasn’t admitted yet. It’s probably something weird like they read all the HD applications at the same time or her transcripts and tests were received later than typical for this batch of acceptances.

@OspreyCV22 Is that so? Sorry! I was just looking at the general scattergram my school provided!

@lilpup2016 They’re actually from northern NJ (OOS)!

@Alex99 oh okay! Thanks!

I’m sure you are fine! It’s a total match

Try calculating your chance in prepscholar. Go into google and type prepscholar virginia tech and calculate your chance with your numbers. It worked for a lot of the students at my school last year.

Okay will do! How much do the look at legacy? Does anyone know?

Hey lilpup2016! I found out the other day I was accepted into VTech during their regular decision round. My choice of major was mechanical engineering but I don’t know if there was anything questionable about admission into that major or not. It didn’t say anything about changing my choice of major so I will assume I did. You are so much more qualified than I am. I applied on Dec 26, 2015 and wasn’t expecting to hear back until April but I heard back on the 22 so don’t put checking your status off!
