I'm particularly that a lack of business-related EC's is going to hurt my chance at Wharton. And in case I don't get in ED. My RD school list is as below:

Columbia University (Engineering school)
Harvard University
Princeton University
Dartmouth University
Amherst College
Duke University
Rice University
Washington University in St. Louis
Stanford University
University of Washington
University of British Columbia
McGill University

The last three are safeties. I'm applying for financial aid to all of these schools except for Stanford and Rice.

Thank you in advance =)

15k income wow.

^ Yep. Hope all the crap I’ve gone through would at least gain me an edge in college admission

can you even apply for financial aid if youre international???

^ LOL Yes. But it will hurt my chances at need-aware schools like Duke and WUSTL.

If you were American, I’d say that you’re a strong candidate in the race. You have absolutely solid accomplishments and academics despite your background. In my opinion, you deserve to get into the top anyways (I guess you could say I have a soft spot for those who push beyond their socio-economic status).
But to be honest, as an international seeking financial aid, you take a pretty significant hit. Not to say it’s nearly as bad as if you were from across the ocean, but it still has an impact. The Ivies and Amherst are all reaches, fair to say (not to surprising under any circumstances). Wash U…err…I’m feeling match for some reason. “Gut feeling” I guess. Rice could be a high match for you, but then again, I’m not one of the most well-versed in international applicants. Nonetheless, best to you.

You’re more than in at U of Washington.

Just found this link from Duke

[Duke University Admissions: International Applicants](http://www.admissions.duke.edu/jump/applying/apply_international.html)

“Because financial resources for these students are limited, each year Duke expects to enroll 20-25 first-year foreign citizens who receive need-based financial aid”

Ouch…

Thanks to everyone’s feedback so far. And yah, I knew about Duke’s policy and am pretty much applying for the kicks…

^I wouldn’t say that you are applying “just for kicks”; though your extracurriculars aren’t extraordinary, your numbers are excellent. Your socioeconomic status hurts, but it also humanizes you as an applicant; if you were to focus on how you were able to overcome hardship etc., you could definitely be one of those twenty.

wow… the thread slipped so quickly…

bump 10char

bump Any more input would be appreciated.

Scores are fine, but I think your ECs are a bit weak just because there’s nothing really unique. Chances are still good though

^ Yeah that’s basically what I thought, I’ll try to remedy that with a good essay though. Any more opinions? Please?

Last bump. Guys please don’t let me down =)

Honestly, no one here can tell you. The amount of aid for internationals is going down. Penn has never been the best. Wharton is overwhelmed with top Asian candidates.

If you’re a native speaker, don’t insult colleges with a Chinese SATll.

Just throw your hat in the ring with a strong essay.

i’ve heard penn admissions officers say that canadians are treated the same as the domestic pool, for both admissions and aid, but the same cannot be said for the rest of the international applicants (of course its still a contextual process)

academics are very solid. national winner on a math contest is definitely a sizeable boost in addition. your ecs are pretty diversified, as well you’ve showed passion for math. make sure your essays are well-written. also, im not too sure about taking that satii in chinese. take one in the humanities (such as literature) or just chill out while your friends are studying for sats

i think you should expect some good news from wharton. good luck =)
