Chance Me for Williams?

Hello! My name is Kelsey, I am a (white) girl at a challenging high school in New Mexico.

WHY WILLIAMS?
I am SO into the community at Williams. The Entry System, Winter Study, Tutorials, and the small community out in the Berkshires seems perfect. I want to be in a place where everyone knows everyone.
Plus, the academics are supposed to be really top-notch.

GRADES?
GPA: 3.85. We don't weight.
I know its a little low.
BUT CLASS RANK: 3

SCORES?
SATS: Didn't take them. PSATS National Merit Semifinalist though.
ACTS: 34. (36 reading, 33 Math, 32 Science)
AP BIO: 5
AP ENG: 5 (and didn't even take the class...heck yes )
SAT II BIO: 780
SAT II LITERATURE: 750

ATHLETICS?
Varsity LAX: Since eighth grade. Captain.
Varsity Soccer: Sophmore. Played years 8, 9, 10.
Varsity XC: Junior and Senior. Only ran those two years. Chosen Captain for Senior Year.

LEADERSHIP?
Student Council Junior and Senior year, Secretary as Junior, unknown role as a Senior.
Peer Mentoring, Head of Tutoring Department as Senior.
LAX Captain Senior Year.
Cross Country Senior Year.

OTHER?
Teaching Assistant Senior Year (Sophomore English Class)
Internship at office of Philadelphia Congresswoman
MUN Junior and Senior Year. Security Council as Junior. Awarded Hon. Best Delegate/Delegation Junior Year, unknown for Senior year.

SERVICE?
Tenth: 40 hours at Rape Crisis Center
Eleventh: Researched, Published, and Distributed a Teen Pregnancy Pamphlet with a group of Peers.
Twelfth: Spent a summer in Peru doing Service and Language Immersion.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL?
Sometimes I feel like really not. Which is scary, because they want a "well-rounded class of specialists." First of all, what kind of baloney is that? We are high school students?!!?! But anyway, thats what they want.
I do have a Leadership role in my school.
Also, I have a distinct leaning towards women's rights: the rape crisis center, the pregnancy pamphlet, and the internship with a female politician. I've also done a bunch of papers and projects on famous women: this will hopefully come through in my recs!
Also, I'm from New Mexico.
Oh, and I lived in Spain in ninth grade, and went to China in tenth, and Peru before Senior year. But still: feels a little random sometimes.

AWARDS:
Smith Award for best all around Junior girl.
Cum Laude as Junior (third highest GPA in Class of 50)
Scholar Athlete
National Merit Semifinalist
Honor Roll every year.

OTHER RANDOM BITS:
My Recs should be great. One Junior English, one Junior History, one (extra) Junior Bio that I probs won't send.
My Common App essay is pretty awesome, I think. I hope!
Supplement, while short (obviously) is hopefully clear and insightful.
Getting a letter from a Williams Trustee that I babysit weekly for. So lucky!
Both Parents graduated from there, as well as a grandfather and great grandfather. LEGACY!
So do I have a shot here? I know it may be a long one. But is it totally out of the picture?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

i think you have a really good shot. obviously the applicant pool at williams is really competitive and full of harvard rejects so make sure you emphasize why williams is your number 1 and not your back up. are you applying ed?

Yup! Going ED November 10th. Hoping that will help…and plan on being annoyingly clear about how much I love it. :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks for the tip!

I think ED you are in, and RD is still highly probable. The #3 rank overcomes the 3.85 to a large extent, and Legacy clinches it.

Thank you so much! You guys are great. I really hope this comes through, and I don’t accidentally misspell Williams on my App or something. ;)
