Applying to Yale Early next year, and Stanford regular.

Chance me!

you have a pretty competitive app even with the Bs in your sophomore year. I would say you have a good chance at both yale and stanford. It seems like you would major in a bio/chem related field so try to qualify for usabo in your senior year(although your application is already very strong).

Also, apply to as many top schools as you possibly can. It seems like location isnt an issue for you. There is always a slight element of randomness in the selection process so its obv better to apply to many top schools instead of just 1-2.

You have a great chance at both of these schools. Keep in mind that these two schools are reaches for every student. But, your achievements will help you a lot! Great job! :)

I think Yale is a bit more of a match than Stanford for you. Stanford is a reach for nearly everyone.

thanks for the replies!

I just chose Yale because it seems a little easier than Harvard and Princeton, and Stanford is just my dream school. Do you think re-doing classes for a better GPA would be looked down upon?

Yale has a lower acceptance rate than Princeton though

but it might be easier for a strong stem student because they are trying to change their image and compete with harvard and princeton for the math/science kids.

I still feel Princeton is a lot more generous, even for stem kids, but regardless, the op has a great chance. Those ec’s are insane

Yeah Yale goes a little bit easier on Math and Science kids and also Yale early-action has the best acceptance rate compared to the others, and since Princeton is early-decision (I think…) Yale-early is my best shot I think

I would say that you are a bit of a reach, Bs do not look good on a transcript. maybe you should try technical college for a year to increase your GPA? maybe you will like it! My son went to a community college and he is very happy!

^^^???

I really hope you’re being sarcastic, peter. Are you saying that op should consider community college even though he has a 35ACT/3.86 GPA? no.

It’s really random, to be honest. Even kids with top stats and recs got rejected/deferred this year… but nobody knows :)

actually girlincross, I’m just trying to be realistic here. Times are hard and I know that my son didn’t make it into his top 4 and he had almost 400 hours of community service working on a farm along with a 3.7 GPA and 2000 SAT.

princeton is single choice ea( just like yale) HOWEVER, I would not suggest applying early to princeton because they are trying to reduce the number of kids they accept by 18 for the next two years in order to compensate for extra acceptances last year.

Also, (at least at my school), they only accepted 2 students and literally deferred everyone else for SCEA so a lot of the strong candidates had to slave away during winter break doing a ton of extra college apps. The guidance counselors were saying how they were surprised about this because there were many students that they thought would get outright rejected.

princeton can be a bit odd with its acceptances like that. so i would suggest just sticking to yale for EA and princeton for RD.

@peter

As far as the ivies go, 2000 on the SAT is pretty bad. And, they look for absolutely stellar ECs. OP made USAMO twice and USAJMO once - that’s probably the top 50 people in the United States for math in his grade level.
