Essays:
CommonApp: I'm basing this one on my experience with tutoring.
Yale Supplement: This one basically goes through my life, describing an activity I love, writing, and how it has had an influence on my passions and hobbies.

Recs:
The teacher giving me recs know me pretty well, one of them has spent the past two weeks writing it because she says she wants it to be 'perfect'. I'm scared I might have better recs than essays!

Intended major:
I'm thinking Sociology or Literature.

Thanks!

Forgot to mention gender and race! I’m a girl, white, and possible hooks might be that I’m a first generation college student and have 2 nationalities.

If you can bring up your SAT score up by AT LEAST 150-250 points, you could become a very strong candidate for Yale. How is your essay?

Well my score is currently 2200 and I’m striving for at least 2300, we’ll see how that goes… I really have to get a better CR score. I described my essays towards the end of my post, I think they’re pretty good, given that I don’t have any sob stories or extraordinary circumstances in my life.

Opps. Sorry! Try only focusing on Math and CR section for SAT, and yeah go for at least 2300(Your status as an international applicant will hurt you.).

Edit IMO, getting your Math to 800 than getting up your Writing section will help you more in terms of getting up your chance.

Thanks for the advice! I’m pretty optimistic about upping my CR score, especially since I got a pretty good score in the Lit test I took this month. I guess that getting a perfect score in Math really depends a lot on how attentive you are.

You have solid ECs but you should take your SAT higher. It is a high reach, I would say.

If you can juuuust get that SAT score up by even 60 points you become a very competitive applicant to Yale. Now there will be tons just like that, but if you write unique essays (they don’t have to be sob stories at all!) and portray yourself as an individual the school could see on their campus, then you have a shot. Nevertheless you, along with everyone else, are a reach for the school :)

[Please Chance Me!](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569454-please-chance-me-will-chance-back.html)

So I guess my SAT score is pretty much the decisive factor between being an average and a competitive applicant. Thanks for your replies!

As you know Yale is a reach for everyone; however, considering your unique extra-curriculars and your “perfect” rec you should be in the higher end of “reaching.” I’ll have to reiterate what others have been saying, getting your scores up will make you a very competitive applicant!
