chance me for yale, williams and amherst please :)

this my first time on this website/forum so apologies if i'm not doing this completely "right". I'm going to be applying to colleges this coming fall and would like to have some outside opinions on my chances of getting into some of the schools that i'm considering, just because I am trying to finalize my college list right now. I know that this is kind of time consuming so thanks in advance, it really means alot to me! :)

Top Choices (reach): Yale, Princeton, Williams, Amherst, Brown
lower reach schools: Tufts, Wellesley, Smith
Safeties: UMass A, Northeastern, Boston University

SATs: 2290 (780 CR/760 M/ 750 W)

SAT IIs: 780 Math II/ 770 Biology (will be taking US History and Chinese Language with Listening in the fall)

GPA: weighted- 4.25 (not quite sure how to calculate unweighted but the majority of my grades throughout high school have been in the A range)

Rank: 4/430

APs: grade 10: Statistics (5)
grade 11: US History (5) Biology (4)
^ my school doesnt make many ap courses available to sophomores and juniors

Senior Course load: AP Lit, AP Psychology, AP Calc BC, AP French, Physics Honors, Symphony Orchestra Honors

ECs: NHS (executive board 11th grade, president for 12th), Mock trial (3 years already, captain for upcoming senior year), Pit Orchestra (3 years going on 4 for our high school musical productions), Violin (7 years), Tri-M music honors society (2 years)

Volunteering: ~1000 hours. I'm currently a third grade sunday school teacher at my church, been volunteering at a vbs camp program every summer since 7th grade, helped clean up the community of Dorchester, and taught English to rural chinese students. Pit orchestra and NHS are also both heavy commitments in terms of volunteering.

Awards/recognitions: Tufts Book award, NHS Service award, Conductor's award for Orchestra, Outstanding Academic achievement award (all years since freshman year), inducted into the French Honors Society (since sophomore year).

Essays/recs: not totally sure yet lol. Predicting excellent recs from my teachers. I haven't started my essay yet but have picked a unique topic to write about and have been outlining it.

I think thats about it.. knowing me, i probably forgot to put down something important. thanks for your time! :)

bump 10char

All of your placements are correct.
Overall, you seem like a qualified applicant for Yale, Williams, and Amherst.
Hopefully, that essay will give you an edge.

If you write an awesome essay surrounding your unique topic, I think you would have an awesome shot at the low reaches you listed, and I think you’d have a decent chance of getting into at least one school from your top choices. Your ECs are good and so are your stats, especially your SAT scores.

Good luck!!

Chance me back please if you have the chance? Thank you! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1527858-chance-me-harvard-yale-etc-will-chance-back.html

thank you guys so much for the feedback  i’m new to this site so i was kind of nervous posting at first. I’ll definitely take your advice into account.

@collegeluva101- i’ll chance back

You have strong chances at all these schools  Just write a thoughtful, original essay and procure some stellar recs, and you’ll be a super competitive applicant!

You have a good grasp of your safeties/matches/reaches. I agree with all of your predictions, and I think you have a decent chance of getting into the reach schools as long as you have a good essay and recommendation.
Good luck!

I agree with SaraCo; you really do seem like you’ll be competitive for those reach schools out there, and I think you’d stand a fairly good chance when applying to Smith and Wellesley. I’ll also second Thebeatlestoday and say now you ought to focus on writing an out-of-the-park essay; that, coupled with the recs, should give you a fighting chance at all of those places. Best of luck!

Awesome ECs Especially your volunteering. Your gpa is solid (UW?!) However your APs are very few.
SAT is clearly good enough for these schools
Again for the top schools and Ivy leagues even the best student has a low reach. That being said I suggest the following
Princeton: Reach but I would say the best one for you given your talents if you apply EA I would say you have a good chance
Yale is a reach
Brown: low reach

Thanks to all for the replies! Like I said before I really appreciate you guys taking the time to do this :)

@brandeisboy- yeah I’m not too sure how to convert my school’s weighted gpa to unweighted… lol

Do you guys think that my ecs are too typical or too limited? I don’t really have a list of 10 different clubs that I’m president for. Tbh I spent more of my time on volunteering than on other ecs bc thats what I’m more passionate about. I guess it just doesn’t look as impressive on paper than some other activities lol
