"Chance Me": Georgetown and Brown

Hi! Like most of you, I am stressing about admissions and doubting myself in the college process. My two top reach schools are Georgetown (University) and Brown (University). My guidance counselor would not give me even an estimate of a top school for me. I would appreciate honesty (but not brutal!) Here are my stats (taken from my common app. w/names omitted):

GPA: 4.22 (decreased from bad Bio. grade and was a 4.3; if I maintain my current grades senior year should increase significantly)- I know it is an end of the year calculation, but it would average to a 4.35 (ish) or 4.4

SAT: May: 1720 (sore thumb, I know)

SAT: Oct./Nov. I plan to raise my score significantly (I am also open to suggestions on a score that would be enough)

Classes (I'm am assuming I meet most standard requirements and am just writing AP:
Our school only allows AP classes to be taken Junior and Senior year:
Junior:
-Biology
-Lang. and Comp.
-U.S. History
Senior:
-Gov. and Politics
-Spanish
-Lit. and Comp.

Need SAT score of 2200+ at least…1700s are too low.

Are you applying for PLME? Your medical center experience will help you

Anyone considering Brown and Georgetown together should probably reassess what is their right fit. They are really very different schools and atmosphere.

Not with that SAT.

What were your subject test scores?

I know they are different feels, and I like the for different reasons. They are both excellent schools, and I spent 2 weeks at Brown two summers ago; I know I like it. I am not applying pre-med., but my mom works in the hospital which is another reason why I volunteered there. I am taking the SAT’s next weekend and on Nov. 8th. Thanks for the advice so far everyone!

June 7, 2014
SAT Subject Test
Spanish
660
U.S. History
610

Hypothetically, where would a 2100 put my chances at admission?

Brown and Georgetown are equally competitive. They are two very different schools of different settings, but their accepted students are with almost identical academic stats.

GU has a higher acceptance rate, because GU is using a non common app , and they require/recommend 3 SAT subject tests, and as a result, less number of applicants. This does not mean GU is easier to get in.

Even as a recuited athelete, most likely, you need to have over 2000 SAT to be in the ball park ( of course, depends on what good you are in your sports.) As a regular applicant, you have to be above 2300 to be in the competive group.

GU, like the Ivies, is a reach for most applicants, so just prepare your best…

New SAT:

1890:

Writing: 690
CR: 690
Math: 510 (basically the same as before, haha)

Just had my interview today- it was informal and I did not embellish too much/acted normal and it went fine. I know that my SAT is a complete sore thumb, especially considering that they do not take writing into account. I hope they also take into account that I am not considering majoring/minoring in math. Anyway, I’ll keep everyone updated. Everything is so score-based it’s sickening but you never know until you apply.

Whoever said Georgetown is just as competitive as Brown is delusional…while the GPA and standardized test averages may be equal, the students and Brown have the stats AND other hooks (URM, talent, major obstacle, etc…) that many GU students don’t have. As far as the SAT, I would say you would need at least a 2200 to be have a good shot at GU looking at your other stats. I think Brown is a high reach for you, and GU is less of a reach but is still unlikely unless you raise that SAT. Chance me back please?! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1703807-chance-me-for-usc-notre-dame-boston-college-duke-georgetown.html#latest

Do you think my EC’s would be enough/the fact that I work taken into consideration for my low test scores (1890, not 1720, still low, but better)? BTW I chanced you back :)

I would suggest considering less competitive schools because your scores are well below the average of brown
