I expect my essays to be very good, writing is my strong suit. Thank you! I took the best courses available to me, which was not much. however I’m considering taking some APs online my senior year and through the summer. Would that be a good plan or are my classes competitive enough? I know my gpa is weak but I am hoping my test scores will improve and be competitive enough? Georgetown has always been a dream of mine.

With your gpa, ranking and test scores, Georgetown and Cornell would both be reaches. I don’t know what AICE is but based on the fact that it’s comparable to IB, your classes should be competitive enough, so there shouldn’t be a need to take APs online.

Low for gtown and cornell

They might be high matches but I still think you have a great chance! and your ACT is great don’t worry too much about! Chance me for Stanford?

Apply to more. You’re pretty low for Georgetown and Cornell objectively, so they are both definite reaches unless you do something insane in your upcoming year. Top 10% is good, but its not outstanding for those; 9/10 students in both of those were in top 10% of HS classes. Admittedly, though, your EC’s are cool.

Have you considered FSU? I hear they’re pretty good in what you care about, and is somewhat easier to get into.

I’m gonna vomit a selection of schools that you might want to look into; they’re not horrible reaches for your current stats, and seem to be pretty good for your majors. I hand-picked them for their financial aid catering (they’re very good about meeting 100% of need), student admission profiles, and concentrations, so I think they will be great bets for you: Davidson, W&M, Emory, Bates, Vassar, Colgate, Hamilton, Colby, Lafayette, Wake Forest, Richmond, and F&M

**My Personal Recommendation: **
Apply to GT, Cornell, and UF. I hate to say it, but those who applied to GT through EA this year wasted their EA/ED bullet; 88% of them were deferred. Cornell’s ED, based on this year’s stats, would give you a major boost for that university. Not saying you NEED to do it (‘cuz ED’s binding), but just sayin’. Next, apply to an easy in-state university with rolling admission that you would like to attend (true safety). Consider maybe applying to FSU; I hear it’s pretty good in what you want. Then, apply to 5 or 6 of the universities I suggested (I say 5 or 6 because I want you to get 10 total, which is a great number when you apply for FAFSA AND want a great selection). At the end of this, I’m sure you will get into a college you will love!

Also some tips if your income level is low enough:

  • Apply for Free / Reduced lunch if you haven’t already (if you can’t get it, the following may not apply).
  • You’ll probably get your application fees waived for your privates.
  • You’ll get (a good chunk of?) your CSS profile fees waived (may have to apply/ask counselor for SAT fee waiver)
  • You’ll get a free ACT your senior year, as well as opportunities to take SAT and/or SAT Subject tests for free

Best of luck in all of your endeavors!
