Chance Me: Georgetown Univeristy

Georgetown University is my top choice school. I have rather low ACT/SAT scores but great EC's and good academic standing. I have heard GU looks at the EC's a lot so I am unsure with my scores if I am in good shape or bad shape. I also attended their summer law institute in the summer.

Good Ecs. Do you have a hook of some sort? The scores and GPA may weigh you down. I would put it at a low reach if you look at the statistics for GT.

Here’s my thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1233558-my-story-will-my-dream-schools-understand.html

Thanks

I dont understand what you mean by a hook? My GPA matches the people accepted (More than 50% of their applications who were accepted were in the top 10% of their class…im in the top 6%). The only thing that they have to see as a downfall is my test scores which they dont look at too much now these days…

To be honest with you, your ACT score will keep you out. I strongly doubt Georgetown considers anyone with an ACT below a 25, so you’d really have some pulling up to do.

I realize that you may believe they don’t look too much at test scores these days, but there’s actually a specific passage on the admissions page that states something along the lines of “[we know some schools are giving less weight to test scores, but we believe they are a legitimate measure of aptitude and they remain an important part of the admissions process.]” Try taking a look at American and George Washington. I have fairly similar academic standing and slightly worse extracurriculars with a 34 ACT, and I’m concerned about getting into G-Town, which is my top choice.

All the same, good luck. :]

“The only thing that they have to see as a downfall is my test scores which they dont look at too much now these days…”

Yes, they do.
