Chance Me Given Other Acceptances

senoritapipita, congratulations, that’s awesome!! Thanks for the kind words.

By the way, you should check out the Official Georgetown University 2016 RD Results. The very first guy was also waitlisted at UVa (in-state), and his stats are absolutely incredible.

VADAD any word on Duke? I’ve been hoping she got in so I was curious

Here is another VADAD1 in making. D is a junior with 2 Cs and several Bs. So far GPA is 3.5. In her Junior year taking 3 AP courses. Doing well, hoping for 3.8 - 3.9 Junior year GPA. ECs nothing spectacular. Captain JV softball, Little league coaching and summer internships at Stonybrook and Georgetown neonatology unit. No real ladership ECs. Here is the hook, SAT 1 2380, CR 800, Math 800 and WR 780. She is instate from N Va (I guess a negative hook). I could see no 2380 in the accepted list. would they refuse a 2380 with modest GPA and minor ECs. Of course she will take 3 subject tests and 3 AP tests and hope to do well.

Cladbury, it was a no on Duke but we have several other things that are looking good. My girl has some options we just need to go take a look at the schools and see what she likes. I’ll update for those who are curious where she ends up.

fatherofm, I don’t want to speculate on your daughter’s chances, but I don’t think UVA would think twice about turning down a 2380 in state if there is something else on the application they don’t like. I don’t think, in the case of Virginia, that an 800,800,800, is any more valuable than a 750,750,750.

I am shocked…wow… Well best of luck:)

So sorry, VADad. Hope the counselor will work on your dau’s behalf with the waitlist schools. Good luck.

And fatherfom, I agree with VADad. SAT’s are wonderfun, but not enough. Be careful. They want to see the whole package, IMO.

As a college level educator in the state of VA, I’d encourage you to try Mary Washington before settling for Mary Baldwin. What I know of Mary Baldwin is many unhappy students, whereas Mary Washington seems to have very high student & faculty morale.

IlikeTofu, thank you for that. We’ve seen some of the student feedback on Mary Baldwin, good and bad. More than one person has suggested Mary Washington, so we are definitely taking a look.

We took a stroll around Sweet Briar College today. Incredible place, just gorgeous. Gonna go back for a guided tour sometime in the next couple of weeks.

VADAD, check out Longwood too! We are well acquainted with a freshman girl there who loves it. We also know two young ladies who graduated last year and had a very good experience. One of them is at UVA as a grad student:).

VADAD - My daughter is a sophomore at UMW and is extremely happy there. You probably know that Mary Washington used to be a sister school to UVA and its campus certainly reflects that. The school is rigorous and respected and if they are still taking applications, I would certainly suggest you give it serious consideration.
