Chance Me! Good Success!

I've already posted this in the Yale Board. Copy and past ftw.

I am currently a high school junior. Just looking to see how I stand. Relatively new to CC. Just need some opinions/suggestions on how I'm looking so far. Thanks a lot guys! Really want to go to Yale or Columbia. Need some other options, I'm still searching lol.

Maybe this was a bad time to post this thread since all the seniors are doing it. I copied and pasted this from a previous thread.

Took two Community College classes on Film History and theory. Good stuff.

So yeah. I'm really into film, medicine, outdoors, being in the water, and sleeping in. I like connecting all these things with film.

good job. apply early. write a killer essay. and you're in! ...what else can there possibly be left to say..hm, don't bomb the interview.

good luck, but i dont think you have a chance. your SAT's are pretty low...apply to state schools.

Ah, CollegeMaestro, are you nuts? Those SAT scores are phenominal! You must be joking.

You have an excellent chance: great adacemics, ECs. You'll do fine, I'm sure.

Your ECS are particularly outstanding. Colleges these days are looking for a demonstrated passion in a particular area rather than "well-rounded" people. The film stuff and the cancer research are particularly impressive. Keep it up and you'll have a great shot at Columbia!

Columbia loves the film stuff. I hope you play that up substantially.

I would recommend that you try not to make that your central part of the essay, contrary to typical advice. This is because your passion for film already shows through very clearly. I would try to emphasize something about your personality or character - and maybe the vehicle for that would be film, but that wouldn't be the whole point. If so, you'll appear much more human to an admissions officer. Either way, you're looking good.

Yeah Columbia offers really good film studies education. Andrew Sarris teaches there...
