Basically, my parents don’t want to spend my college fund on undergrad. They say if I don’t get into a top 25 school they will not spend the money (they want to save it for grad school) I want to know whether I have a good chance of getting into any top 25 school and if not whether I have a good chance of getting a scholarship to a decent school ie emory, tulane, tuffs etc…

Thanks for the help

I like your chances at lots of places. Your standardized tests are great. Your GPA won’t hurt you in most cases. Your ECs are good. Just don’t take any school for granted by just going through the motions and not showing genuine interest. Tulane, Tufts, and others will reject you, much less offer you a scholarship, if you do not show a lot of knowledge of the school and connect the dots as to how their specific programs dovetail with your career plans. Also, I hope your parents are not really firmly fixated on the “top 25.” The USNWR rankings change every year because they need sell magazines, so the top 25 changes all the time. This year’s 29 may be next year’s 24. Anyway, be sure to enjoy college as well, and best of luck to you!

@NJDad68 thank you!

@mocktrialer5 Top 25 from where xD. There are many rankings lol. Assuming that the 1520 is on the new SAT, I think you got an excellent chance at one :D. Good luck .

If your schools initials are A.A. (don’t answer, stay confidential), you have the most famous high school guidance counselor in the world at your disposal. No one can chance you better than R.F. Ask him!

(That is a funny sentence. “The most famous high school guidance counselor in the world”. Wonder if he drinks Dos Equis.

Why not include that you did swimming and soccer, too?

If you are planning on med school or law school, your parents are wise to save the money. However, for almost any other field, if you do well as an undergraduate, you should get fully funded offers for graduate school.

I would plan a diversified approach. Apply to UNM, where you’d have a good shot of the Presidential or Regents’ Scholarship with your stats. The Honors Program has a good reputation. If you want another financial safety, apply to ASU’s Barrett Honors Program, where substantial merit money is likely. Apply to a few top 25 reaches that offer generous need-based aid and/or merit scholarships. And then look for some matches (25-75 ranked schools) where high merit aid is likely. At a top 50 school, I’m sure that the Guidance Counselors know what they’re about. Be honest about the potential financial constraints and what type of school you’d prefer (LAC or university, size of school, location, etc.) and you’ll get good advice.

Your record looks excellent. I’m sure you will have many options. And congrats on being part of a nationally ranked Mock Trial team!

More than anything, be proud of your amazing high school record. I hope you were able to enjoy it in the process. Best of luck!
