Hello!
so i’ve just received my grades for this term, and i was wondering if you guys think whether or not they are okay to get into andover.
My school follows a 1-10 system, with 1 being the lowest and 10 the highest.
I understand that it is not the only aspect of the Application, but it would be great if you just based your opinions on these:
Chemistry 9
Physics 7
PE (sports0 8
Business Studies 9
Geography 9
Mathematics 9
English Lang/Lit 9
Art 9
Spanish 9.5
Public Speaking 8
@CallieMom I got them back a couple days ago (i forgot to update this thread #-o ) It wasnt great, (85% grade-gender) but my Interviewer understands ( i think) that the test doesnt follow my curriculum and i had very little time to prepare
I need to head this one off at the pass, because many users are not familiar with grading scales outside the US. So to prevent any parents or kids thinking that a 9 is equivalent to a 90, I offer you the following conversion:
9-10 = A
8-8.9 = A-
7-7.9 = B+
As noted above, though, grades are but one part of the application. Good luck.
@LilyPatrick I wish you the best of luck in the application process. You are an international applicant and your SSAT is outside the range for both Andover and Exeter. You are certainly an accomplished student and could well be admitted to either or both schools. However, you keep saying that your AO knows why your SSAT is lower and “understands.” A piece of advice: sometimes it doesn’t matter why something is —it is just a fact that you are somewhat out of range or deficient in an area. I.e a job applicant missing a required skill or experience. I don’t recall but get the impression you have only applied to those two schools. Most people with your SSATS without being a legacy, development or athletic applicant would have applied to other schools. I think you need to be realistic that you probably have a 50/50 shot. Much of it will depend on the make up of other international applicants in your year. Good luck.
@center Yes, i totally understand. To be honest, after reading through so many forums on CC, i think its far less than a 50/50 chance. But, to look on the bright side, i guess i just have to work incredibly hard on the Essays and my portfolio, i guess? Also, thank you!
@LilyPatrick You are welcome and I dont mean to seem unkind, I am just a realist. My youngest is at PEA yet my family has had just as many “failures” as “successes” (which is life) so I just think it is important to have a rational approach. It seems you do. On a separate note we have learned that many times the failures weren’t really failures afterall, they were really just a different path or eventual opportunity. Very best of luck to you.
