Chance me: GW, Georgetown, Saint Joe's, Upenn, and NYU

Hey everyone! Thank you in advance for reading and responding to this.

Here’s a little about me:

I had a major GPA shift during high school. Freshman year I was practically straight A’s. Sophomore year I received a D and a C. Junior year, I got things more stable, and am in the B- to A range for all my classes (all of which are at the IB level!). I know that’s probably not that impressive for the 5.0 GPA folks on this site, but I’ve been struggling with clinical depression/anxiety for a long time and working is very difficult for me. Not an excuse, but it’s why things turned out the way they did.

Here are my stats:

Gender: Female
Race: Multiracial (black white and Native American)
Unweighted GPA: 3.58
Weighted GPA: 4.09
SAT (new SAT): 1290. Retaking to raise it.
Subject tests: don’t have the scores yet, but I took US History, English, and Biology
Extra Circulars: Model UN, humor editor for the school paper, student council, art club, literary magazine
Achievements: Second Place at the regional creative writing competition. Black belt in karate.
Academic Rigor: I’m currently enrolled in IB. So I take all IB courses and one honors elective. Last year I took AP Gov and AP Stat. (Received a A in Gov and a D in stat… yikes).
Misc: I have a strength in writing so I think I’ll have a great essay, and strong relationships with all of my teachers so I’ll have posituve recommendations.

George Washington University is my dream school and I think it’s within reach. My safeties are Saint Joe’s and Temple.

I think you have a great shot at GW. Definitely apply to Georgetown and uPenn, but they are going to be reaches (lets be honest, they are reaches for everyone). Don’t worry about hiccups, admissions is holistic! Hope this helps and best of luck
