Please chance me for:
Harvard
Princeton
Yale
Dartmouth
Columbia
Williams
Swarthmore
UC Berkely (I am CA resident)
Stanford
Georgetown (I have legacy)

We are going to do a lot of extrapolating her- cause your a sophomore, but…
Your ECs are ridiculous, just incredible
Your GPA is great, but could use some work for HYPS
Your SATs should be fine, especially if you hit your current targets, this won’t make your application, but solid scores help you everywhere.

HYP: REACH for everyone- but you have a great shot- only thing you can do is keep taking hard classes, up that gpa/class rank.

Dartmouth/columbia-low reach- youre well on your way-but they are super selective

UCB- match- your stats and ECs should get you in

Stanford- Reach - see HYP- the Cal residence helps a little here

Williams- Almost a safety for you- especially if you ontinue with your gpa and ECs

Swarthmore- Low match-you should get in here too

Gtown- SAFETY?- that might be going a little far in calling it a safety, but depending on how much legacy you have + your stats, you should get in

Anywhere you go is going to be a great school

Chance back
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/889642-chance-me-rice-duke-jhu-ect-will-chance-back.html

Grades:
Gpa - Current (unweighted) - 3.76
(weighted) - 3.89
Not good at all. No chance at ivies.
- Projected (unweighted) - 3.94 - about [4.5]
Fair chance at ivies.
SATs - I only took practice, but - 2300
CR - 750
Math - 800
Writing - 800
Your math doesn’t add up… 750+800+800 = 2350?
Anyways… 2300+ should be good enough.

Your extracurriculars are pretty good… except that they are at most, average ECs.
You doing 3 varsity sports does NOT make you look better than someone who did ONE varsity sport. So that’s a waste. HYP does not care if you do MORE things, but they care about what kind of an IMPACT your ECs have made.

EX) Students for Barack Obama, City Council Rep for Schools and Students
^ Stuff like that gets your into HYP, not sports / newspaper editors.

His ECs are average?

God… what do you expect, a cure for cancer? The kids clearly a musical prodigy and he’s in jazz! So little people seem to post anything about jazz, and tbh it takes far more skill than robotic teenage classical musicians! Not only has he directed and won superior rankings, but he plays professionally and written professionally… I would NOT say that is average. In addition to teaching underprivileged kids, I’d say you stand a great chance of getting into many of these schools considering your grades and scores.

Oh yeah my bad… 2350 on my SATs

freaked out i would have to disagree with you on almost every point. a close to 3.8 unweighted GPA definitely gives him a shot at the ivys considering the rest of his application.
A 3.95 gives him a better than fair chance at ivys. The 2350 will look excellent if he gets it. His ECs are outstanding. Professional jazz player and composer? Lit magazine editor? Large roles in multipe plays as well as being an international thespian? 3 varsity sports team + tons of volenteering? Really all he has left to do is cure cancer and run for president. you can’t fault him on ECs

It’s somewhat difficult to chance a sophmore, but I’ll do my best.
First of all, a 2350 is extraordinary and will give adcoms a reason to give your application a closer look. Your uw GPA is a little underwhelming considering you want to apply to HYP, so focus on getting that up into 3.9 territory.

Your EC’s are good, but I agree with freakedout your EC’s are good but they don’t blow me out of the water. I would recommend spending more time in volunteer work especially. I think your EC’s now make you look a little too much like a rich good. It’s cool though that you’re a concerto-level musician!
Here we go -

Harvard - reach
Princeton - reach
Yale - reach (HYPS is a reach for everyone though, I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into one of them)
Dartmouth - low reach
Columbia - low reach
Williams - high match
Swarthmore - I can’t say
UC Berkely - lower match
Stanford - reach
Georgetown - match

Please?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/893196-only-uva-oos-ib-student.html

This is my prediction but I’m no expert

Harvard - reach but you look pretty strong
Princeton- same here
Yale- same here
Dartmouth- probably best chance here of all the ivies
Columbia- same here
Williams- I would say definitely in
Swarthmore- in I’m pretty sure and if you’re going to do theatre you’d probably do really well here
UC Berkely- I would say definitely in because you live in California
Stanford- it’s a reach for EVERYONE
Georgetown- probably in esp. with the legacy

Thank you for responding to mine by the way. You were one of the few people that made me feel better about the places I want to go haha. I am going to retake the SAT for sure and the ACT as well! Thanks and good luck next year!

This is interesting. As far as I have read, ECs and other stuff that doesn’t relate to the transcript/standardized test scores, namely, the intangibles, do not account for more than 30% of the overall application process. The ~70% is made up of three things: transcript (GPA), SAT I, and SAT II.

Also, you aren’t going to have everyone applying to HYPS with exceptionally unique ECs. I would have to say that his music ECs are unique considering they focus on jazz, furthermore they show commitment considering he will be doing it for 4 years or more when it comes application time. In fact, all of his ECs will show commitment. His acting may further show his commitment to music and the arts. However, the most important aspect that he will show from his ECs is his leadership which is clearly visible considering he has directed chamber groups, written pieces etc.

His ECs are way higher than those of the average applicant at HYPS, furthermore they are higher than, what would probably be, the average expectation of a HYPS admissions officer. So, pianoman, your ECs are DEFINITELY not a problem. Your SAT I projected is not a problem either; anything 2300+ is VERY good. Really what you need to do now is bring that weighted GPA up above 4.3 and get some good SAT IIs in with 750+.

Good luck.

If you get all your projected scores then, most are matches (HYPS are basically reaches for everyone) because of your ECs are spectacular for a sophomore (will you be throwing in some more leadership positions?) and your projected scores are fine.

Chance me even though some people already did?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/899461-chance-me-uc-schools.html

You’re from Sacramento too? Interesting. I can’t think of any small, competitive schools in the area. Loma, BV, Jesuit, and Davis are all medium-sized schools and Franklin is large. Yes, I like to think of Franklin as competitive.

SCDS - Sacramento Country Day School - it’s very small (about 30-40 people per class)
It’s near Rio Americano and Jesuit

HYP is a reach for everyone but you should get into one of them i just dont know which

No one asked him what his ethnicity is?

I’m caucasian, FYI

IF you can reach your projected stats you should have a decent chance at your top schools but you may fall short of your goals

Currently your unweighted GPA needs to increase to around 3.85-3.9 but your weighted GPA needs to increase to around 4.5ish to give you a good shot at the ivies.

Make sure to also have a high (top 10%) class rank and get above a 2200 on the SAT/33 on the ACT. Your ECs/course load are decent and you seem to have a passion for music. Winning awards at the state/national level will help show passion.

Wouldn’t mind a change back :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/861721-chance-please.html

Uh…I don’t know what you’re smoking lol.

The biggest issue I see is GPA. Yes, it’s high. But keep in mind that the average GPA of the incoming class at top schools is 3.8/3.9, and I’d be willing to bet that that average is somewhat skewed by legacies/URMs/athletes/kids from top prep schools. Your best bet is to look at where kids from your high school traditionally get accepted. Do kids with your GPA have a shot?
