Chance me! Homeschooled all 12 years.

Technically not homeschooled. My school is an accredited public online charter school that has sent kids to Berkeley, Stanford, Ivies, in the past. And technically not 12 years either since I skipped a grade.

SAT: 2260 (750CR/740M/770W/9 essay)
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.17 W.
Class Rank: Unranked until senior year, definitely top 10%.
SATII: Lit 800, Chem 720(lolol, retaking in October). I will take Math II in october, assume I get a competitive score.
Took AP Chem, APUSH, and AP Lang this year
Senior year: AP Calc AB(highest level :/) AP Lit, AP Physics B(highest), AP Bio, AP Gov/Econ.

ECs:
-Piano 10 years, completed state testing program with honors, local piano competitions(2nd place, 2nd place, 3rd place, 1st place)
-Girl Scouts, very active, leadership positions every year and current vice president(president elect)
-Church student leader for five years
-church band(keyboard)
-Writing, Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Honorable mention(2) and National Novel Writing Month Winner(2)
-Dance( 3 years) ballet, jazz, acro, noncompetitive, nonperforming XD
-Research project assistant at local UC, research is in sensory gating in bipolar and schizophrenics, recruit patients, perform 5 different tests with EEG, model and analyze data on computer.
-Piano teacher with a couple of students in all age ranges.

Summer Activities:
-writing, swim league, aforementioned research, Girl Scout Gold Award project
-Will be participating in E2@MIT (peripheral of MITES) this summer.

Awards:
Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold(fingers crossed-project this weekend) Awards
Presidential Service Award(Gold)
National Merit Commended

Ethnicity: Asian(Chinese)
Gender: F
Intended Major: Engineering(undecided, probably biomed or mechanical)
Income: >100,000
State: California

Schools:
MIT(wasn't going to, but after E2 i probably won't be able to resist)
Stanford SCEA
Cornell COE
Brown
UC Berkeley COE
UCLA
UCSD
UCI
University of Rochester
Carnegie Mellon University-CIT
Harvey Mudd(been to a bunch of programs with them, which were what sparked my interest in engineering)
Rice University

Thanks for chancing me. My experience has been a little bit strange...I didn't want to be an engineer until last year so I don't really have a lot of STEM ECs. I didn't even know about colleges till like last October. I'm going to be applying as a 16 year old if that changes anything.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I’ve raised money for and attended three mission trips with my church, one to Dominican Republic, one to Mexico, and one to Costa Rica. I heard that colleges don’t like them but I thought I may as well include them.

Also, I’m a double legacy at University of Rochester and two of my aunts attended MIT and Stanford, and my grandma went to Cornell.

Good SAT scores. If possible, take it again to raise Math if you’re pursuing anything related to Math (engineering etc.) But don’t waste your time to revise. I believe it’s just that you’re careless.

Your ECs are good, but not good enough to guarantee a match for the top universities.

Not sure how…mission trips help? Hate to say but you might want to remove the religious affiliation if it’s not pure-missionary trip (for example, you taught the children there english). I’m saying this cos you never know if the admission people are really really really into the religion war or anything. But if you have faith put it on…up to you, it’s like a double-edged sword.

legacy helps a bit. Assume a boost of 1~2% chances?

MIT - reach
Stanford - reach
Cornell - low reach
Brown - reach
UC Berkeley - match (you’re Californian right?)
UCLA - match
UCSD - match
UCI - match
University of Rochester - match
Carnegie Mellon University - high match~low reach
Harvey Mudd - reach (I’m not too sure about this school, I only know that it’s one of the best engineering schools)
Rice University - low reach

That’s why I wasn’t sure about putting it into the initial post. Thanks! So you wouldn’t consider any of them safeties? >.>

I was thinking about retaking but decided not to. I only got one math question wrong(and omitted one) the curve was just horrendous. XD

Anyone else? :D

MIT(wasn’t going to, but after E2 i probably won’t be able to resist) Reach
Stanford SCEA - Reach
Cornell COE - Low Reach
Brown - REach
UC Berkeley COE - Match
UCLA - match
UCSD - safety
UCI - safety
University of Rochester - Safety
Carnegie Mellon University-CIT - Match
Harvey Mudd(been to a bunch of programs with them, which were what sparked my interest in engineering) - Low Reach/High Match
Rice University - Low Reach/high match

As an in-state applicant, you have as good of a chance as any at Stanford, and you’re likely to get in at berkeley. You have excellent GPA and good EC’s, and a decent SAT. However, being an Asian STEM female from California, you have a lot of competition lol. But you will most likely get into both Berkeley and UCLA, and so you will have excellent options right off the bat.

Reaches: MIT, Brown (possibly low reach), Stanford
Low reach/high match: Cornell, Berkeley, Harvey Mudd, Rice
Safety: UCLA, UCSD, Rochester, UCI, Carnegie Mellon

Thanks! I really appreciate it. Cosmogony and Nihilus you are both freaking epic and slightly scary and I hope we all get into the colleges we want to. XD

Ivys, Stanford, MIT: reach, except cornell low reach
CMU: low reach
UCB/UCLA match, but u never know since you’re instate

I think applying at 16 will negatively affect your app (IMO) think about it- take another year of hs and imagine how much you can accomplish! You can perfect your app even more

Ivies are reach for anybody, but it seems like you have decent chances to get into few of them, UCLA, UVSD, UCI would be your safety and Rochester low low match. Goodluck!

@roxy I will be a senior, just a young one because I skipped a grade and was born in May.

You have great ECs, and I was particularly impressed by the Girl Scout awards (I did GS for awhile, and know how much time and dedication they take, especially the gold award). Your research is also quite impressive, and I wouldn’t worry too much about not having too many STEM ECs – you seem to be a very strong applicant. Of course, with Ivies/Stanford/MIT, it’s always a crapshoot, and you never really know.

MIT: reach
Stanford SCEA: reach
Cornell COE: low reach
Brown: reach
UC Berkeley COE: low reach
UCLA: low reach
UCSD: safety
UCI: safety
University of Rochester: low reach
Carnegie Mellon University-CIT: low reach
Harvey Mudd: reach
Rice University: reach

Good luck!

Sorry, but do you think you could chance me for the following three schools as well:

UCSD
Lehigh
University of Southern California

Thanks!
