Essays- I feel they are strong

LOR- Chemistry teacher
Band Instructor- Has told me I am an uncommonly strong and dedicated student

Thank you!

I forgot to add legacy- My Dad, uncle, and grandfather have 5 degrees From UMich between them

Are you trying out for the marching band??

You are an extremely strong candidate but OOS is still very hard. You need a great essay. Take your time and craft something that speaks to you and shows your abilities and how you can be an asset to the Michigan Campus /culture…

Legacy doesn’t matter much anymore and Michigan only accepts one recommendation (I would choose a teacher in a core subject, not band), but those nitpicks aside, you are a very strong candidate.

Michigan is a reach for OOS, so I can’t predict or give a probability, but your application sounds strong. Think carefully about your “Why Michigan” essay.

Yes. I would love to play in the marching band there

No reason you can’t legitimately apply to any college in America. I think you have a great chance but even if not, you’re certainly legit for Michigan and others at the highest level.

So many Stem kids do. Have you been looked at for them? Ask your coach how to go about it. Small merit comes with it also.

Also I am assuming you have 2-4 years of a foreign language and the rest of the core subjects…

Essay to be personal, unique and interesting.

What state are you coming from?

Not sure what you play for some auditions are like next week to submit to.

Those auditions are for the 2022-23 season. This student will be interested in 2023-24.

Students are admitted to the university before auditioning for the marching band.

Oops… I should of known that… Thx… Just reacted. Need to read it next time… Lol

As others have said, I think you would be a very strong candidate for Michigan. As it is so popular with many highly-qualified students, there are no guarantees, though. Just make sure you know that even if you are accepted, merit aid is very hard to come by for out-of-state students. Is your family willing and able to pay the costs for OOS tuition at Michigan?

Yes. My family is willing to work with me in the cost if I get in.

Keep in mind it’s $69,000 first 2 years then like $73,000 the final 2 years…

I assume your applying to your local universities as well?

Good Luck.
