School is top 50 public school in US. We're a magnet school.

All classes are the highest level possible. This means all Pre-AP/AP/Honors (And the higher level when we have two Pre-AP levels).

Senior Year: AP Calc BC, Honors Diff EQ, AP Euro, AP Lit, AP Gov, AP Econ, AP French, Honors Orchestra, Honors Adv Biotech

IMPORTANT: I went to Montessori schools through 9th grade, and when my prior school ended, I transferred into my current school for 10th grade. This means that I only had 3 years of possible commitment for school activities. It also means that I wasn't really prepared for the rigor of my current school's curriculum.

Extra Curricular Activities:

Orchestra:
11-12 Years double bass (since 1st grade) - Not applying to music school because I don't really want to only do music for the rest of my life
Will send in artistic supplement (and it will be good)
Went to Interlochen (6 week summer intensive arts program)
All-Region (and section leader) - but I've never auditioned for state (probably will this year though)
Section leader at school, also top group
I've done tons of various youth orchestras (always top group)
Probably officer position in school orchestra next year

Cross Country/Track:
Soph+
District Runner Up in all events in 2011-2012
District Champion 2012-2013 - Top 10 or so in my division of state
Team Captain, etc
Will be recruited at some D3 schools, and possible some D1

NHS - Pretty big at our school, just a member

Knitting Club - Knits hats for kids with cancer

Environmental Club - Mainly 10th grade

Chess Club

Magic Card Game Club

Academic Awards:
Got Duke TIP recognition
National Merit Semi-Finalist (probably)
AP Scholar with Honor
High Scorer on National French Exam

Scientific Research:
Participating in a very selective(~15%) research internship program for 6 weeks this summer.
Probably will enter Siemens and/or Intel.

Essays will be good. I got an 800 on SAT writing, so yeah.

I'm also a totally normal, non disadvantaged white male. Both of my parents went to college and are now professors.

SCHOOLS - Will probably not be applying to all (or most) of these!

Amherst - Likely athletic recruit
Bowdoin - Likely athletic recruit
UChicago (Brother attends)- Likely athletic recruit
Claremont McKenna- Likely athletic recruit (Chances for merit scholarship?)
Columbia
Dartmouth
Emory - athletic recruit (Chances for merit scholarship?)
Georgetown
Haverford - Likely athletic recruit
Harvard, probably SCEA (not my top choice though) - Mom attended for medical school
Penn
Pomona - Likely athletic recruit
USC
Stanford - Dad attended grad school. I believe Stanford counts this as legacy?
TAMU
UT
Vanderbilt
Williams - Likely athletic recruit
Yale

First off, you’re very well-rounded: you have great SAT scores, a terrific GPA, and tremendous EC’s. But, so do all the other applicants at these schools. I’m not trying to discourage you, but you have to be prepared for that. For the Ivies, the interview will be VERY important; aside from the essay, this will be the only time they will really see who YOU are. Set yourself apart from the other applicants. What makes you special? What can you bring to the school? Now, as far as the athletic recruitment, quite honestly, don’t rely on that alone, especially with tier 1 schools.

Okay, now I’m going to list schools you will get into:
TAMU
Penn
UT (Austin I assume)

Schools that you have a good chance of getting into:
USC
Emory

And, any school I didn’t list is fair game, meaning anything is possible.

Honestly, all the schools you listed are great schools (except TAMU).

Thank you so much! I assume you thought I put Penn meaning Penn State, but I meant University of Pennsylvania, so that suggestion should probably be amended.

I think I’d definitely be happy at Emory, and USC has a really good NMF scholarship. I’m just hoping that I’ll get lucky in one of my far reaches.

Any other suggestions / chances? I will try to chance back, but I only know so much.

All LACs are reaches. All the Ivies including UPenn are reaches. Vandy, Georgetown, and UChic are low-mid reaches. The rest are matches/safeties. You have a shot at all the schools that you listed, but unfortunately they are very selective. It’s unpredictable really, and your chances are sometimes based on luck when applying to these top tier colleges.

No problem. I don’t need to be chanced; I’m going to University of Washignton. Thanks though. For your senior year, don’t slack off once you get an accpetance letter, because colleges may rescind their offer. Also, once a class begins DO NOT drop it. Some high schools allow students to change a class in the first week without any impact on their GPA or transcript. Best of luck!

Ah, okay thanks.

Does anyone know how athletic recruiting will influence my admission at the D3 schools?
