Hi, I know some people don’t recommend chance me threads, but I’m just curious.
Applied early to MIT.
For context: I am an Asian Male from NY; I go to a public school in a suburbs/rural fringe area, nothing special about my school. Asian male got into Stanford from my school 3 years ago. Other than that, there aren’t many people who have gotten into top schools or out of state schools in general.
My academics:
AP, Sophomore year: Calc BC (5); APUSH (5)
AP Junior Year: Stats (5); World (5); Lang (5); Physics C (5,5); CS A (5)
AP Senior Year (Planned): Literature, Government, Chemistry, Spanish, Microeconomics
UW: 3.86 W: 4.4 (Sophomore year sucked, but I missed 30 days due to a health scare)
Most demanding curriculum in my school.
Currently taking Calc 4 at Columbia.
Awards:
SAT: 1600
SAT 2 Math: 800
SAT 2 Physics: 790
ECs: Robotics Captain (Former Software Lead from 10-11). Secured 15k funding for local robotics teams and started 6 teams in my area. Debate: 2x TOC qualifier, ranked top 50 in nation.Grew team from 10 to 50, secured district funding for first time in school history. Karate: 3rd degree black belt, teach classes, demo team member. Tutor for others, and TA for physics teacher (one who wrote my rec).
This summer I did research in ML and am in the process of publishing a paper.
Last summer I developed a website to teach coding to students, and it is now being used in 5 schools in NY as the classroom for CS.
Recs: Physics was 10/10, talked about how I can change the world and was best student he’d seen since he started teaching (let me read the rec too!)
English: 8/10, fairly standard strong rec.
Essays:
Common App: 10/10, very strong. Talked about familial struggles and how I overcame them. English teacher said it was the best essay she’s read in a while for college essays.
Applying for CS.
