Chance me for these schools! (and also should I send act or sat or both?)
Cornell
NYU (New York University)
University of Chicago
Duke
USC (University of Southern California)
Boston College
Northwestern
Emory
Ucla, Berkely, San diego, Irvine

Thanks for all your help in advance! Remember give me a link to your chance thread!!! =)

To be honest, with your record, I say match/high match for most of the schools (excluding U Chicago and Cornel, maybe Dukel, maybe some Cali universities since I don’t know about them well).

The GPA is very good, and SAT could use a little work, but it seems fine to me (Except Korean… what happened there?)

EC looks fine, as you have many variety of ECs as well as few leadership positions, showing that you actually cared about it. If possible, however, I would find a really strong leadership position that defines who you are. Because many Koreans (and not just limited to Koreans) throughout the country go on Church missions and volunteer at their Churches.

2달만 버티면 끝이다… 그때까지만 기다리면 좋은 결과가 나올꺼예요~

I’d say you’re a high match for most schools listed, including UChicago and Cornell. Your ECs are pretty good and are only made weaker by the fact that there’s nothing defining about them. That said, you should get into a couple of these schools listed.

Anyone else? Oh im trying to go in as a science major…im thinking maybe chemistry but my ap score is low although sat ii scores are high. Oh and I also forgot to post this but I my rank is like 101/806…our school is very competitive. How much of this will hurt my admission?

Duke has amazing science and medical buildings with a top 5 med school on campus. Might look at Holy Cross very good school 1 hour from Boston. Holy Cross is similar to Boston College as both are Jesuit schools. Holy Cross(don’t have to be religious) just built a $70 million science building and has a great science/medical alumni network-including Nobel Prize winner. HC is need blind for financial aid as is Duke and the Ivies.

Are my sat and act scores good enough to get into top colleges like Cornell, Duke and U of Chicago? And can anyone answer how my rank will be affect my chances to these schools?

any more opinions l chance back!!

You have a pretty good/high chance to Duke Univerisity. I live near the school so i know alot of ppl that have gotten in. What may help you is to schedule an interview with the school. The interview consists of questions based on current events and opinions. They asked my friend what the greatest change of the 18th century was?

If u can get into Duke, you can most deff be competetive for Boston College.

That’s how I see your chances! For schools like U Chicago, I think your essays will most likely be deciding factor. I know some people who have applied/are applying there, and being creative and unique is the best bet. Duke and Cornell are elite schools, but you have a solid record, and it wouldn’t surprise me if you got in. Best of luck :)

Anyone think my rank (100/806) will affect my admissions to these colleges alot? My unweighted gpa is 3.85 but in our school 1 B drops you like 35 ranks…

Ok I chanced you. Is there anyone there willing to give me a more specific reason why I;m likely or not likely to get in instead of just putting match, high match , reach etc…? I’ll chance you back!!

Cornell-low reach/high match
NYU (New York University)-Stern: high match, otherwise match
University of Chicago-low reach
Duke-high match
USC (University of Southern California)-high match

Northwestern-low reach

I’d send ACT and SAT. Your english score on ACT trumps your reading/writing while math is better on SAT. Reading is also good on ACT, so if you send both it shows you can be successful at all of them. Test scores are slightly low and there isn’t any indication of leadership, but based on what you do have I assumed you have something to show for it.

Me:
SCHOOLS
NYU Tisch
Columbia
Northwestern
USC
Occidental
Brown
Claremont McKenna
Cornell

OBJECTIVES:
GPA: 3.63 UW, 4.13? W. My GPA was lowered by most recent semester (3.300), my counselor letter of rec will explain why. I’m not sure on my weighted but I’ve taken the most rigorous schedule possible, as evidenced by IB Diploma.
IB Diploma
SAT: 690 CR 710 M 660 W…predicting 710 CR 760 M and 700 W
ACT: 35 E 33 M 28 R 26 S for a composite of 31. Might take again.
SAT II: Will take Math II, Lit, and Physics. I’m going to try hard for 800s, but assume 780/780/740.
IB Exams: Film SL 7

EXTRACURRICULARS:
Youth Symphony Orchestra since 8th grade
DECA Nationals competitor, State medalist x2, and Regional winner last year. Started Sophomore year. Involved again this year.
Job as a grill cook since junior year, working 30 hours a week. Shift supervisor.
Film Club president and founder.
Evergreen Hospital Volunteer since sophomore year, 4 hours a week
Math tutor since 8th grade, about an hour a week
Model United Nations (MUN). Attending a conference in Vancouver, BC and I’ve opted out of two in Berkeley for DECA state.

ESSAYS/SUPPLEMENTS: My common app essay will be good but probably won’t stand out, I think my supplements will be excellent.
LETTERS OF REC: The teacher ones are going to be fantastic, the counselor one won’t be too special. If I can get my IB coordinator to do the counselor one, I’ll have two fantastic and one very good.

Hmm, I’d say:
NYU Tisch - IDK
Columbia - reach
Northwestern - low reach
USC - high match
Occidental - low match
Brown - reach
Claremont McKenna - high match/low reach
Cornell - low reach

If what you say is true and that your gpa can be explained by your counselor with a strong reason and your sat scores are what you predict to be then I think your a very strong applicant…except for maybe Columbia and Brown because even your predicted SAT I scores are lower than average there. I also think your Ec’s lack focus on one specific thing. You don’t really show what you really want to do in your EC’s because they are diverse. If you apply to all those schools, I think you can get into about half of them.

Now anyone else want to chance me???

Well if you look at sophomore and first semester junior I’m about 3.8, and then I had to start working more hours for the family and my parents were working on divorce papers (that they eventually did not file), all while my grandmother was suffering from a terrible case of Alzheimers. IDK what normally passes as an explanation though.

Anyone else willing to give their opinion? I chance back!!
