Chance me. I DARE YOU.

Hi kfive,

I’m happy to chance you … but can you chance me too? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/538677-please-chance-me-i-d-really-really-appreciate.html</a>.

First off, with a thread title like that, do you really think that people are going to chance you? I suggest that you start a new thread with a more welcoming title so that people are more willing to chance you … I’m nicer so I chance everyone who hasn’t been chanced yet.

Anywho, I’ll start with your GPA. A UW 4.0 is very impressive, especially when you’ve loaded up your schedule with Honors/AP classes. By the time you graduate from HS, you will have completed 8 AP classes, which is about the average on CC, but of course, the people posting here on CC aren’t your typical high school kids. For your AP grades, they’re decent, but not the most impressive. At more prestigious schools, they tend to award credit for 5s, if any at all. You may get credit for your 3 in Euro at state schools tho. Your SAT score of 2200 is very very good and places you in the Top 1% in the US. For your SAT IIs, most of the scores are good, except for your Lit score. I recommend retaking that test. You’ll need it because a 600 is no good on the SAT Subject — you should have 650+ for every test. Your ECs are few in number and lack leadership based on the info you gave me, but you demonstrate significant dedication for Violin and Tae Kwan Do (this is very interesting). Your violin isn’t as interesting, because … who doesn’t play in their school band/orchestra (but going to Tokyo IS exotic)? Your volunteering would have been awesome, if there were more verbs in the past tense instead of the future tense … however, you can get away from that by describing your experiences of taking care of your grandmother (why did you feel like you needed to do it? did your parents work leaving you to take care of your grandmother? what did you learn from your grandmother? … etc you know that kinda stuff)… or you can be brutally honest in your essay and talk about your experiences on XBox and how you admire the graphics on XBox (not a joke … admission officers enjoy honest people).

Overall, you’re a good student, but you’re not the most active kid I’ve seen here on CC. However, it’s too late to change your ECs now — the only way you can boost your chances of admission is to write killer essays … and no … not the ones that are so scary that they give admission officers a heart attack, but that would be cool tho.
