I'm a math major and so far I've gotten an A in stats, a B in precalc, a C in calc1, and a B in calc2...In calc1 I underestimated the final because I thought I knew everything plus the teacher was very old fashioned and difficult. Calc2 was just a teacher that gave hard tests, I truly thought I earned an A!

Other than that I haven't gotten anything less than a B in my other courses, my current GPA is a 3.44 and I plan on getting a 4.0 easily next semester, which would put me at a 3.6?

I applied to UCB, UCSD, UCD(TAG), UCSC(TAG).

Berkeley is pretty much a longshot after getting a B in calc2, but do I still have a chance at UCSD? I mean...not many people a apply as math majors.

cus they required me to take english2 the fall prior to transferring but i just happened to take english1 this semester…didn’t know that was a requirement early enough.

Of the Calc 1, Calc2, Calc3 series, Calc 2 is generally considered the most difficult so the B will not hurt you nearly as much as the C in Calc 1. Upper division math courses are going to be vastly more difficult than the introductory three semester Calculus sequence which math majors would normally be expected to get As in. What was your SAT math score?

Here, be careful with it though - it’s kinda vague and if you ignore the uc eligible aspect you’ll see really low acceptance %s that’ll depress you.

Regardless, it’s good to talk with your counselors and get a real feel of your chances - they have a better idea. I remember talking to my counselor + a UCB rep and they said my chances were decent for UCB if that’s what I wanted, but I passed on that after realizing most of my worst lab partners were dead set on UCB lol
