Chance me?- I love math/science buy my extracurrics don't really show this.

Ok, so I have good stats and such, but I havent done anything extraordinary in math/science; i've never built robots for fun, or invented something, or won at the intel sciene fair, etc.
Do I have a chance of getting in at caltech?

Here's my info:
4.583 G.P.A
SAT I (I took it twice):
CR:800,730 MATH:800,770 WRIT: 800,800

SAT II: US HIS:770 MATH II:760 BIO: to be taken.

Class rank 1. I'm female.

AP classes and scores: calc ab:5; calc bc:4; chem:4; comp sci a:4; us his: 5; world: 5;
art his: 4; english lang:5; euro: 4

Math/science extracurrics:

continental math league/ amc high scorer
honorable mention at CA state science fair for my project on how math is innate
ophthalmology related community service project in india

other extracurrics:
varsity tennis 4 yrs, MVP, captain
mock trial
community service clubs
work at the temple
symphonic band
indian classical dance, tabla (indian drums)
ap national scholar, RYLA, CSF, NHL

Though my extracurrics don' really scream math/science nerd, i love those subjects. i'm taking ap bio right now, and my area of interest/research would be with telomeres. and i'd like to continue my science fair project to other species.

do i have a chance? what should i emphasize most?

*but my extracurrics…

acceptance rates are significantly higher for females

correct me if i’m wrong but i believe it’s like 27-28% vs. 15-18% for males

“SAT I (I took it twice):
CR:800,730 MATH:800,770 WRIT: 800,800”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but you took the SAT twice…having received a 2400 on the first try and a lower score on the second?

Whether or not an applicant is female has nothing to do with their chances of getting in. Often, the female applicant pool self-selects more, leading to a higher percentage, but quoting that data can give a false perception of their chances.

Make sure your application stresses your interest in math/science. Talk about it in your essays, expand on those extracurriculars, and have your recommenders mention it too.

ewwww caltech…

@brownman777: +1 insightful

No, the first time I got a 2330: 730,800,800
The second time I got a 2370: 800,770, 800.

And as far as stressing math and science activities, do they look unfavorably at school level math activities? My town doesn’t have as many resources, i.e.: research opportunities, national competitions, etc.

wow. I’m surprised that anyone would take the SAT again after a 2330
Anyways, I digress.
Any female with high stats I think have at least some chance.
Maybe the activities might hurt. but we’ll see. I’d say at least apply

I’m kind of in the same situation. I’ve never done anything extraordinary in those areas but i can’t help it. i looove sciences…

and about to graduate from school this week. and in january and febrery i’ll be deciding whether to stay in school (IB 2nd year) or not.

anywayy my question iss… would it be better (for my curriculum i mean) if i take all the sat subject tests (the 2 of biology, 1 of chemistry & 1 of science) ?? right?

Or should I try to complete my IB and also take the sats? i need an adviiicee
