i know i have time to improve. What do you think my chances are? what would you reccomend i improve? i know that science score is bad, but i have no idea why, ive always enjoyed science classes and have done very well in them...

ill chance back to the best of my abilities

Your number one issue are your test scores. You seriously should study on the ACT’s/SAT’s and get atleast a 33-34, and def. 2100-2250+!
Other than that, your GPA is next to perfect, class rank can’t get better, and EC’s are pretty decent. You should be considering Cornell Univ and other top 25 schools as well.
Other than the test scores, I can picture this deffff at CMU but perhaps also at Brown or Cornell or UPenn.

Oh you mentioned Cornell? NVm just skimmed thru and saw CMU lol.

ok thanks! i think i actually will try the act again. im happy with all my scores but science, so i think i will focus on just studying that. i may take the sat again, if i can.

GPA and class rank is great, but you should work on the SAT/ACT scores. Especially if you’re interested in engineering schools.

any tips for raising my science score or my math score? i dont understand why they were so low lol im actually on my way to a state math competition tomorrow

It sounds like you will definitely get into CMU, your academics sound strong though your test taking could use some work. The only way to get it up is through good old practice!

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/898730-chances-duke-penn-cornell.html

thanks everybody! do u think my science needs improved or the whole test? be brutally honest! (but not too mean lol)

anybody???

Well yeah, I’d def pull Science up to, at the least, a 30ish. That’d take care of a big dent.

If you calculate your scores from the 2nd ACT test, if you make your science into a 30, your new cumulative score is 32.5, so around 33, which is really good.

Yes, but is CMU a financial safety, it’s a school with poor aid. You need considerably higher scores for the good aid schools if that matters.

Still, it’s better that he has those good scores. As long as he can more or less ‘confirm’ a transfer from community college to a university.

she. im a she. lol.

but i completely agree about the science thing. any tips for studying? idk why it is so low ive always been good at science… yeah redroses im kinda nervous about getting financial aid. without substatial aid cmu is out of the question.

You need to focus on schools that meet need. At CMI, good aid is lots of loans.

ok thanks! do you know what schools are good about meeting need?

Generally, the most competitive schools are good about meeting aid. But without higher scores, those schools are unlikely. In that case, it may be worth looking into state honors colleges with merit scholarships (UGa comes to mind).

You’re going to need to raise the SAT score up since these are engineering colleges that focus alot more on stats rather than on intangible holistic factors like EC’s (some exceptions being Cornell, JHU).

I remember reading an article a while back that said that Pittsburgh was attempting to transform itself from a manufacturing city to that of one whose income came from health care and EDUCATION. CMU is trying to generate an economy within the town, so don’t expect too much aid.

thanks for all the advice! question: since my sat score isnt as good as my act score, do i have to send it to colleges when i apply or can i just send my act scores?
