You should definitely shoot higher… your stats are really strong. I would apply to some reach schools just to see. you are totally in the mix for Ivies.

very nice EC’s. what you lack in academic rigor you overcompensate with a bombardment of leadership and dedication. I would say match on all of them, and reserve in just so that i dont jinx you haha

you should have no problem getting into UF, especially as an in-state student. (you also meet the credentials for bright futures)
make sure to write a strong essay that relates to your interests and get good teacher recs, and you should have no trouble with that school (trust me, i live five minutes away and i’ve seen practically every type of person imaginable get accepted there)

you have a great chance at UF and UT
you have alright an alright chance at UVA, but its still a reach school.

to be honest, i think some of the people who are saying UVA is a safety aren’t very familiar with UVA at all, the OP probably knows UVA better because his brother is an alum

IN IN IN IN IN IN IN IIN ININ IN IN IN IN and IN again, those are fantastic stats and i guarantee you will get into any of those three and probably into any honors colleges at those universities, if those are your top 3 choices youve got absolutely nothing to worry about

looking at this thread again, I think you guys should reevaluate the wisdom of college advice from people who havent gone to college themselves especially if they need advice themselves and Definitely if they haven’t heard of/ aren’t familiar with the schools on the list.

I say in at all, fo’ sho’. There’s no doubt in my mind. You have all the stats necessary in order to be accepted. If you get rejected at any one, I will be seriously surprised. Good job :)

you would be fine for all 3 of those schools. SAT isn’t that high? but I dont think those schools would be too picky about that. excellent community service + volunteering.
the political activism will look great to those colleges, considering its your intended major.
good luck! you’ll get in.

University of Virginia - slight reach (OOS hurts)

University of Texas at Austin- match

University of Florida- match

UVA you have a chance but it is somewhat a reach. I would plan on getting into texas and florida, and if uva happens then it’s a plus. answer my thread? it’s right there…

In at all, but UVA out of state is a bit of a reach for ANYONE (honestly, you have a good shot but don’t get your hopes up when dealing with a place like UVA OOS). And I warn you about SOME of your ECs…People to People Student Ambassadors (which I actually did in middle school and had a great, but not resume worthy, experience in), that “National/Congressional Youth Leadership Conference” stuff, and the “National Society of High School Scholars” are all things that anybody with the $$$ can do. And colleges know that. But you have a lot of legitimate, substantive ECs…although I don’t know how you’re going to work on the McCain campaign this fall, unless you just mean the party in general. In fact, many of your ECs are similar to mine…another prospective poli sci major here who put in hundreds upon hundreds of hours walking around town with a clipboard and those McCain Palin Door flyer things. If you can retake either the SAT or the ACT (even if you don’t, you’re still in the middle 50%), you should try for Georgetown.
