<p>I think i'm a good example of "smart but didn't apply self in high school". I wish i would have tried harder (and wish i could make myself try now but im hecka lazy). My scores are good, but my gpa and ec's are meh</p>

<p>So these are the schools i'm looking at:
-Brown
-Duke
-UCLA
-UNC
-USC
-PSU (I'm in-state)
-Washington
Brown and Duke i don't expect, UNC i'm not in NC so probably not there either, but what of UCLA USC and Washington? Also, my chances at PSU Honors?</p>

SAT: 2270 (800 Math, 730 Critical Reading, 730 Writing)
ACT: 34 Composite (33 Math, 33 Science, 35 Reading, 34 Writing)
SAT II: taking next month
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): ~3.5
Weighted GPA: ~4.0
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): ~140/700 (Top 20%)
AP's: US History, Calc AB, English Language/Comp, Statistics - All 5 (and a physics b 3 i'm not submitting). Going to take: Micro/Macro Economics, Psychology, English Lit.
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Semifinalist, AP Scholar w/Distinction</p>

<p>Subjective
Extracurriculars:
-7 years lessons violin,
-5 years private chamber orchestra
-4 years art lessons,
-4 years varsity speech and debate, arguably best congress debater in greater pittsburgh (i won pretty much every tournament)
-jv tennis 9th grade, jv #1/varsity tennis 10th (state champions).
-table tennis co-president 9/10 grade
-varsity math team</p>

<p>-rents divorced in the 6th grade, low income family</p>

<p>Job/Work Experience:
-Burger King
-Panera Bread
-Babysitting</p>

<p>Volunteer/Community Service:
~50 hours at the library,
~20 hours miscellaneous,
-hopefully ~20 at the hospital by the time i apply (starting now)</p>

<p>If you’re low income and out of state, cross all UCs off your list. The only aid you would get is federal, a drop in the bucket towards the $50K OOS cost.</p>

<p>Brown and Duke pretty much impossible due to rank. UNC is a reach as is USC.</p>

<p>If you’re low income and don’t have a secret college fund, you need to focus on someof the lower end schools that meet need like St. Olaf and Bates.</p>
