Chance me? I will Chance back.

I'm applying for UPenn CAS (ED), Princeton, Cornell, Columbia, Chicago. I mainly just care about UPenn though. UPenn has been my dream (well it's tied with Oxford at #1) for ages, and I really want to know how much of a chance i have.

Chance me? I will chance back within 24 hours. I don't have a huge amount of free time, so I will try to get back to you ASAP. If I miss you just post again in the thread to remind me and I will do it. Thanks.

Leader of the School Spirit Organisation

Essays:
Common App: Supposedly out of this world, but I'm not that hot on it. It's quite personal though.

Recommendation Letters:
Teachers: 2 teachers have a reputation for giving out the best references at the school. Both know me very well and have very high opinions of me. A third is also very good. The recommendation is a little bit dry, but it gets the point across.
Supplementary: High Ranking Executive at Rogers Wireless. Extraordinary, imo.
Guidance: I expect this to be very, very good, considering that I'm her favourite student and I do half her job for her anyways.

Hooks: My Dad was a C'87 Cornell Dyson Graduate (back when it wasn't even called Dyson, lol) Uhm, I have the opposite of hooks basically for everything else. No URM. No First Generation College. And my parents went to prestigious schools that aren't my top 3 choices(UPenn, Columbia, Princeton), which I believe hurts me, but I'm not certain.

Oh and Supplements:

My Penn one was pretty good I suppose. I'd say 9-9.5/10

And I'm still working on the others.

upenn is sooo attainable for you! you can do it seriously just make sure you put your heart into it. regardless you should be very proud of yourself for all of your accomplishments. congrats on writing phenomenal essays too that’s no easy task. I believe you will be pleased with your results.
best of luck!

UPenn looks like a low reach/high match. Lots of Asians have scores like yours, so your essays will make a whole lot of difference. But well done.

PS: chance back please http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1572592-columbia-ed-top-state-schools-ea-chance-international.html</a></p>

@Standford. I just chanced you back. And I can’t attest to how exactly the Adcom will take my essay; I only have anecdotal evidence from my teachers, counsellor, and some of my parent’s office staff. But, I can guarantee that it’s totally different from any essay written by an Asian. At least the Common App general is. My Supplement is a little more conventional. Thanks for your chance. I feel pretty good with a low-reach/high match.

The essays are usually(I think) taken in context with all else(LoRs, activities, interests etc). So you really do have a good shot, because everything seems to be in-sync, if that makes any sense. For Cornell, are you considering ILR or Liberal Arts?

Also, Oxford is amazing. When are you taking the TSA(if that’s required for you guys over in Canada)?

Most likely Liberal Arts for Cornell. But I might do Dyson to appease les parents. I don’t think I’ll go even if I get in though.

And I’m not taking the TSA. Wasn’t required for my course (History and Economics). I’m doing the HAT this Wednesday. Oh God. I can’t even talk about that; I think I might die.

Hahaha I know that feeling. Well, you have a great shot at LibArts @ Cornell, but slightly lower chances but not by much, still a good chance, at AEM(isn’t that the non-sellout name? :P). As I understand, admissions are way competitive for that school.

LOL tell me about it. TSA at some point(haven’t even started studying, ***) for PPE. It’s nice to dream…
Oxford admissions are really hard to predict because all they care about is academics, and a whole lot of people with stats like yours will be applying.

You don’t need a chance. You will get in for sure.

Yeah, AEM’s the non-sellout name. I think Legacy should help though. I’m not quite sure how competitive Dyson is though. I really don’t want to live in Ithaca for 4 years, so I have done literally zero research for Cornell, lol.

I’m not too worried about Oxford. My mum went there in the late 80s and she knows a lot of people there. So I’m not too, too worried. I just have to get better than 50 on my HAT and not bomb my interview and insult my tutor.

Legacy will totally help. Cornell’s in match category(probably high match, but lower than UPenn).
Wow, you have some serious opportunities man. Good luck with Oxford! With your stats, a good HAT score and interview, you’re almost in for sure.

Thanks. You’ll do amazing as well. I would imagine that at least one of Columbia or Chicago would take you. I wish you the best of luck.

No Ivy is ever anything lower than low reach imho, so UPenn and Cornell are low reaches. I don’t even know with Chicago; it becomes more Ivy-ish every year. You’re an extremely qualified applicant though, so you have a good chance of getting accepted by. Because you’re doing UPenn ED, I’ll say it’s the lowest possible reach, like right above high match. The rest:

Princeton: reach
Columbia: reach
Chicago: volatile low reach
Cornell: *very low reach

I think you will get into penn ed no problem.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1571620-will-i-get-into-any-these-transfer.html</a></p>

I think you have a really good shot, I’d bet you’re in!

I think you will get into UPenn and Cornell. UPenn will probably be a little harder to get into but you should be fine with Cornell. Your Supplement Letter sounds great and your scores are impressive. Your honors sound great as well, but at all of these schools everyone has impressive scores so it will probably come down to essays and extracurriculars. Good Luck with your applications!

Thanks guys for responding, you guys are really making me feel better about all of this.

Very good chances at Upenn and Cornell. Princeton and Columbia will be flooded with applicants similar to you, and you don’t have much of a stand-out feature in your app, so those are definitely reaches. But I would be a surprised if you were rejected ED to CAS.

Chance back?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1508837-chance-princeton-upenn-jerome-fisher-ivies-etc.html</a></p>

Oh and I have a question. How much would it help me if my first counsin/step-brother(long story) went to Columbia and is doing his post doc?

It wouldn’t help at all. That’s way too far removed to be legacy or familial advantage.

definitely cornell and chicago. And I think you are just perfectly set for upenn. You’re in the top 1% of your class and in the 98-99 percentile for the SAT. Your SAT 2’s are amazing and other people with your stats are shooting for harvard. With Penns 12% acceptance rate, you’re set. I think you’ll get in. :D
