I have just ended my junior year. I am part of the IB program, and I also take several AP courses. My course load for this year was IB Biology, Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, AP US History, Ap English Language, IB Latin, and TOK/Research.
My unweighted GPA is a bit low: 3.38
Weighted: 4.17 I do not know my rank.
SAT: 2210 CR: 740 M: 670 W: 800
I plan to retake. I want to get above 2300.
ACT: I will take this.
SAT Subjects: I plan to take Biology (M), Chemistry, Math 2, world history, and possibly physics.
I plan to take for senior year: AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Statistics, AP Calculus BC, AP English Lit, AP Latin, IB TOK/AP microeconomics, AP US government/ap macroeconomics.
Extracurriculars: State Latin forum: 1st place in greek Literature and Roman history and 1st place in the nation in greek literature (NJCL) and 3rd place in state latin certamen (sophmore/junior), and trying to start a Greek certamen program. Treasurer of school Latin club
Member of National Latin Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Science National Honor society, national honor society, and national history honor society.
Vice president of the schools chapter of the medical club and also the school's director of the medical simulation that used by our school. I took part in HOSA and started Take heart America programs in neighborhood elementary schools. I have participated in public health education sessions for people living in low income neighborhoods.
I am currently working on two research projects now. One that deals with biochemistry and another in medicine (possibly might tie in optogenetics). I am trying to get these papers published by major science organizations such as the american physiological society and the endocrine society.
I am planning to be a member of the local county's public health committee and health it committee.
I am working as a pharmacy technician at the hospital where my mother works.
I have volunteered at the local children's clinic in the oncology and pulmonology departments.
I am planning to work with programs promoting the development of education (trying to support IB schools) and public health in my native country.
I have volunteered in the art museum in a program (camp) for special needs kids.
I have volunteered in the food bank, red cross, housing projects for the homeless.
Do I have a chance of getting into emory, vanderbilt, carnegie mellon, northwestern, washington university in st. louis, New York university, Rice University, college of william and mary, or university of chicago, or Gatech?
My backup plan is morehouse college or UF.
Also for background information I am a immigrant. I am from Africa.
Any advice is helpful, and please be honest.
I really want to know if it is possible for me to get into Emory and college of william and mary. Thanks

You’re chances for all of those look pretty good to me. The GPA is, as you said, a little low but I think you have a really good shot at Emory and William & Mary. U Chicago, Wash U, and Northwestern might be reaches but I would say GA Tech and NYU are good matches.

I definitely agree, your chances are fairly good - your EC’s are solid, and the SAT (even as is) is gonna help you out. The GPA is a bit low, but I think the rest of your application balances it out. So try to focus on those recs and of course the essays and I’d say Emory & William/Mary would be high matches. Chicago, Northwestern, Wash U, and NYU are matches and GA Tech is certain.

@onerepublic96 is incorrect. U Chicago, Northwestern, and to a lesser extent, Wash U are matches.

U Chicago is a Reach/ High Reach, Northwestern is a Reach, and Wash U is a Reach. Your GPA is very low and will hurt you for these top colleges. You have great extracurriculars, and writing great essays will help you get into the, but they are definitely not matches.

I know this really isn’t the place to ask, but I was wondering…
How did you become a pharm tech in high school? Did you have to take a class?
I am asking this because I am a high school student who is interested in the pharmacy field.
Again, I am sorry I can’t chance you, but your help would really be appreciated. :)

I guess it’s a bit of a stretch, but if you ace the tests and pull of straight a’s next term, it might make up for lack in gpa thus far. It’s really hard to say, but if you make a lot of extra curriculars into realities (instead of “im working on…” “im planning to…”) then you may have a chance. It’ll be a reach for sure, but you definitely have a chance. But then again, it’s a reach for even the best of the best…

could you chance me back please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1514734-very-stressed-please-chance-me.html

I’m looking more at my chances for Emory. I know I wont get into northwestern or u chicago.

I think your chances aren’t bad. Being brutally honest, that UW GPA is going to hurt you a lot. But your extracurrics go a loooooooooooooong way to making up for that. Feel free to retake the SAT, but I don’t think that you need above a 2300 to get into most of these schools. Your ec’s are pretty phenomenal, especially if you’ll be applying for bio or something pre-med related. You clearly have a passion and colleges will like that.

Emory - High Match
Vanderbilt - High Match/Low Reach
CMU - Match/High Match
NWU - Reach
WUSTL, Pre-Med Program - High Reach
Wustl reg - High Match
NYU - Low Match
College of William & Mary - Match
UChicago - Reach
GATech - Low Match

Oh, Chance me back?
