Yale is a reach for everyone. What other schools are on your list? Intended major? SAT/SAT II scores?

@momofsenior1 GW, Gtown, JHU, Harvard, UW-Madison, schools like that.

SAT II scores are not so good… 750s

Are you instate for Madison? You have a lot of high reaches on your list so be sure to to have match and safety schools too. Not saying you shouldn’t try for Yale because you have impressive ECs but your ACT is on the lower end of their range.

@momofsenior1 exactly what i thought, im taking the ACT this saturday hoping to get a 34/35. Im just confused because 33 and up are all in the 99th percentile

@momofsenior1 and no im not instate

For Yale etc. your whole application needs to be in the 99.9th percentile.

@TomSrOfBoston exactly, i think im getting there , just need to figure out my final essay! thanks!

Have you looked at the common data set for Yale for last year? The 25th percentile for ACT was 32 and the 75th was 35. You are already in range but with a 7% acceptance rate, you want to make yourself as competitive as possible. Yale says standardize test scores are considered “very important” in the application process. Here’s the link: https://oir.yale.edu/sites/default/files/cds_2017-2018_0.pdf

Out of state admission to a public flag ship is more competitive. Some majors more so than others. That’s why I asked if you were instate for UW Madison.

@momofsenior1 that is so true. Im taking it again this saturday and hopefuly I do better, I think I will.

Honestly, a 33 is great and you should be proud. I personally don’t believe test scores matter unless they are exceptionally low. You have great ECs and GPA, AP test scores are barely used for admissions, but you clearly have had a rigorous course load-- so props to you. Of course, Yale is a reach for everyone and college decisions are mainly luck so try and fall in love with other schools too. Don’t stress at all about your ACT score and work on having a super interesting essay and supplements, that’s really what matters. You have done the bulk of what you can control so be happy knowing you will get into some amazing schools, Yale or otherwise.
