-Carnegie Mellon ED- High match
-Case Western EA- low match
-UMich EA- low reach
-Northeastern EA- match
-Brandeis EA- match
-UChicago RD- reach
-NYU RD- match
-USC RD- high match

Please chance me back at “Low gpa high sat”

mellon is slightly optimistic. You have a great ACT score, but the low GPA will hurt you.

catsarecats, why is your GPA so low?
Also, being Asian will hurt you. Trust me, I am Indian. My older bro who is Indian applied to Carnegie Mellon RD or ED with a 2130 and a 3.9 GPA and did not get accepted. I think it was because either 1 he was asian, or two he only took 4 APs and did tennis, robotics, and church, and that was it.
-Carnegie Mellon ED- definately not a high match, but a close reach (write good essays!)
RETAKE THE SUBJECTS (Carnegie mellon requires them and if you are doing engineering you must well to get in) CM already has tons of Asian Males!
-Case Western EA- low match
-UMich EA- low reach
-Northeastern EA- very close reach
-Brandeis EA- match
-UChicago RD- Far reach especially because you Asian, I know how you feel. You won’t get in, i’m sorry but not with a 3.35+Asian.
-NYU RD- close reach, probably will get in.
-USC RD- probably a match

messed up in my early years but i have an upward trend.

I have to agree with everyone here, UChicago is a high reach for you because of the reasons mentioned above, but i do think you stand a decent chance at CMU and Northeastern, write inspiring essays and hope for the best. Also if you have a good reason why your gpa is low, you should mention it or ask your gc to do it. I wish you the best of luck. Chance me back if you can:

GPA doe
youre good everywhere else
maybe write an explanation essay on why its low and then your chances improve a lot

-Carnegie Mellon ED------50/50 because early decision
-Case Western EA-----idk what that is
-UMich EA------- u good
-Northeastern EA----- u good
-Brandeis EA------- 62% good lol
-UChicago RD------ idk 40%
-NYU RD------------------- 53%
-USC RD-----------------45%

Your ACT Scores are excellent and will definitely increase your chances of getting into these schools; However, your GPA is low ( Compared to your ACT score, colleges would expect near perfect GPA).
My only advice would be to make your essay as good as possible.

USC - Match
Carnegie Mellon - 50/50 as said earlier
U Mich - Match
NYU - Match
NorthEastern - Low reach
U Chicago - Reach

Impeccable extra curricular activities, but you have a 3.3 GPA as an Asian; that’s kind of a killer.

-Carnegie Mellon [Decent chance]
-Case Western [Decent chance]
-UMich [Decent chance]
-Northeastern [Decent chance]
-Brandeis [Decent chance]
-UChicago No
-NYU No
-USC Maybe

let me get this straight… because I don’t really use a 4.0 scale in school. I have an 88-89 in school, is this the same?

Probably in at all except UChicago. You have a good shot, though. I’ve seen kids with worse stats get in there.

thanks! bump and can you tell me if a 3.35 is an 88-89? or is that a different number?

Hi =)
First reply…btw thank you for replying to my post…
I looked at your credentials and they are impressive (great job …feel free to pat yourself on the back)
…the one thing that may hold you back is that GPA…but…since you said its an upward trend…if you did well last year…and get almost all A’s this year…I don’t see why any of the colleges should deny you…if anything you might get deferred but if you have great 1st sem grades…I feel that all those colleges are definitely within reach =)

Your SAT and ACT scores are really good but your GPA was your downfall. I recommend you try your best to raise that as much as possible if it’s not already too late. Besides that, you are in real good shape. Good luck.

-Carnegie Mellon ED-low reach
-Case Western EA- match
-UMich EA-low reach
-Northeastern EA- high match
-Brandeis EA- match
-UChicago RD- high reach
-NYU RD- high match
-USC RD- low reach

Chance me back at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1418611-chance-me-ill-chance-back.html please!

Your test scores are good but your GPA will definitely hurt you, same with your ethnicity. I’d say your good for your schools though, but Carnegie Mellon might be a longshot.
