Hi all,
I am a senior right now who is wondering what the chances would be to get into USC, Georgia Tech, and UCSD. I am an asian male from New Jersey. Thank you all in advance. Also, I am applying for Computer Science.
GPA UW: (I think around 3.3)
GPA W: (around 3.7)
Without FROSH:
GPA UW: (I think around 3.5)
GPA W: (around 3.8)
I am unsure of my GPA because my school uses the 4.5 scale (as opposed to the 4.0 scale).
On that scale, my UW is 3.53 and my W:3.83
UCGPA: 3.5
ACT: 33
SuperScore ACT: 34 (but only GA tech superscores)
Math II: 760
Physics I: 730
ECs:
I am Varsity Tennis (second doubles junior year), JV in freshmen and sophomore
I work as a part-time manager at a tennis club.
I am Vice President of the Anime Club and developer of its website (rising9.com)
I am in TV Crew, Robotics, Interact (community service club)
I accompany the school chorus and school Orchestra as a pianist
Strongest ECs:
I have won many piano awards in state and merit scholarship in piano
Held a Benefits concert for children with cancer.
Three years of internship in a financial technology company
My essay should be strong but my Recommendations are not that solid.
FInally, I am working really hard my senior year to bring up my GPA, however I am afraid colleges won’t really look at it. I am currently taking five AP classes out of seven, and pulling straight As in all but AB CALC and AP Lit (both B+)
Once again, thank you all for reading this, I really appreciate it.
UCSD like all the UC’s are very GPA focused. Your UC GPA places you way below the 25th percentile (4.00) but your ACT is above the 75th percentile (33). UCSD will not consider Senior year grades in their admission decisions.
GPA and test scores of middle 25%-75% students
High School UC GPA: 4.00 - 4.27
ACT Composite Score: 28 - 33
SAT Critical Reading: 590 - 720
SAT Mathematics: 630 - 770
Since you are applying for one of the most competitive majors along with being OOS, I think UCSD is a Reach.
Given your GPA those schools are reaches for CS.
Frankly, I think they’re all reaches. While your gpa is good, these schools are really competitive so it will probably hold you back. Being an Asian male will be a disadvantage and make it harder to get into Tech. Good luck!
They’re all average, the only thing that destroys your chances is that GPA.
The ACT score is very good, but average+ to those colleges you’re applying to.
Your ECs seem strong, though. You’ll be classified as “competitive” for those colleges.
Now for your GPA, it’s your senior year, so it’s unlikely those colleges will really care for much of an improvement.
However, if you took rigorous courses, then the colleges will take that into account whenever looking at your GPA. That will help you a lot.
Good luck!
Please chance me back (a percentage chance and explanations to what I need to improve would be appreciated),
