Chance me (I'll chance back!)

Hi all,

I am a senior right now who is wondering what the chances would be to get into USC, WUSTL, and Tufts. Thank you all in advance. Also, I am applying for Computer Science or Statistics.

GPA UW: (I think around 3.3)
GPA W: (around 3.7)

Without FROSH:
GPA UW: (I think around 3.5)
GPA W: (around 3.8)

I am unsure of my GPA because my school uses the 4.5 scale (as opposed to the 4.0 scale).
On that scale, my UW is 3.53 and my W:3.83

ACT: 33
SuperScore ACT: 34 (doesn’t matter because none of these schools super score)

I am Varsity Tennis (second doubles junior year)
I work as a part-time manager at a tennis club.
I am Vice President of the Anime Club and developer of its website (rising9.com)
I am in TV Crew, Robotics, Interact
I accompany the school chorus and school Orchestra as a pianist

Strongest ECs:
I have won many piano awards in state and merit scholarship in piano
Three years of internship in a financial technology company

My essay should be strong but my RECs are not that solid.

FInally, I am working really hard my senior year to bring up my GPA, however I am afraid colleges won’t really look at it. I am currently taking five AP classes out of seven, and pulling straight As in all but AB CALC and AP Lit (both B+)

Once again, thank you all for reading this, I really appreciate it.

Also, I forgot to mention my SAT II scores:
Math II: 760
Physics: 730

I think you will get into USC, you have the test scores and grades. I do not know a lot about WUSTL. I think Tufts might be a reach. Chance me back?

I would think accept for USC. WashU may be a bit of a reach because of your GPA, but that all depends on your circumstances/courseload.

I think schools will appreciate to see you’re taking hard classes senior year. Most schools ask to see your senior schedule so they can see you’re taking AP’s. your Act and sat 2 scores are good, but your gpa is a bit low. I think you’ll get into USC but idk about wustl or tufts.

Thanks

Just so you know, Tufts does superscore ACT. Also, every college I have ever talked to, been to, or heard from has expressed the importance of GPA in the context of course load. They want to see that you took the most difficult course load and succeeded. Your senior year definitely is indicative of that and if you have an increasing trend, that is progressively getting more successful academically throughout your high school career, they will definitely consider that. Your test scores are certainly there. Your GPA may be a little concerning for Wash U and Tufts, but I think in context, your chances are a bit better. They do not expect you to be perfect, but 3.5 unweighted is a little low. They definitely consider GPA/course load in context more heavily than test scores. Your ECs are good and your senior schedule will help your chances. I would say yes to USC, but iffy for Wash U and Tufts. Chance me back?

USC-low reach
WUSTL-reach
Tufts-Reach

I feel like your gpa will bring you down, but in a holistic review process you have a chance.

I wouldve thought USC was on the same level as Tufts and Washu. Is that not the case?

Bump

I agree with @film1999 your test scores are great but your gpa is kind of low, making them all reaches

South Carolina or Southern California?
I think these are all reaches, but you can raise your chances if you bump up your GPA. Your extra curriculars and test scores put you in a good place, but GPA is extremely important and these schools are highly selective.

Sorry for not being clear, I meant University of Southern California. And Yes, Senior year I am working to bring my grade up, but Im afraid colleges won’t see it since my school won’t send those until mid february.

@andyprep they will still see them, and they will be a critical part of an application if you’ve sort of waxed and waned throughout–GPA wise. It can further/strengthen a case for admission if you’re doing exceptionally well with your mid-year! best of luck
