For
University of Pennsylvania ED
Brown
Northwestern
Duke
Cornell

Stats are up to par, but you do an extraordinary job of fitting the Asian stereotype. It’ll dampen your chances by a considerable amount.

I’d say that you stand a pretty good chance at Northwestern. Duke and Cornell I don’t know much about, but overall, you might want to think about adding on to your EC’s. Not a big deal though- from where I stand, you look pretty good! The origami thing is really cool! Make sure you do your essay on that to make it stand out.

Please chance back!

need more ECs.

Your transcript grades and scores put you in a good spot at any school in the nation, thats not what you need to worry about. Try and distinguish yourself from all the other candidates. Maybe get some leadership positions or start your own club. A real published book is a good way to do that as well. I think my ECs and your grades would make us a pretty solid team.

how do I look asian if I dont have any math and science ECs?

^Origami and “Chinese folk art”.

You mean teaching English? The AID program volunteers teach them English, not Chinese.

Yea, I meant english

freudian slip.

And also, I think most asians who do asian ECs capitalize on their math and science skills. I would NOT expect every single asian to be doing anything near this (origami).

Also these are art thingys

By volunteering at a Chinese folk art summer camp, tutoring in Taiwan, Origami, etc.

Besides, “art” themed extracurriculars hold almost no value if you don’t plan on pursuing a major in that field.

You’re going? I was actually accepted as well, but I’m strongly considering not attending since I went to Taiwan for Red Cross last summer and found the humidity and bug bites almost intolerable.

Oh, no Im going next year… my mom has connections.

My brother might go.
What area are you from?
And my brother went to the red cross thing!!! And he also complained about bug bites…

Yikes, are you serious? Can you provide a source for that? I’m genuinely curious as I’m applying to HYPSM and I’m leaning heavily on my photography portfolio and numerous international and national distinctions as a “hook” of sorts.

WOAH! Your bro went to the Red Cross thing?! There were only twenty to twenty five kids there!

I don’t care about HYPSM, not applying to any except P&M… and don’t really care if I make it or not.

I’m talking about Penn, Cornell, Duke

Does your brother’s name start with B by any chance?

LOL I didn’t know he had a sister! I thought he only had a brother. You could probably ask him about me. I was the one who was obsessed with college since my sister had gotten into Harvard.

Small world, this place…

You are concerned with the same schools I am, and seem to be fairly similar. I would say it would help if your EC’s showed more commitment (start in 9th grade), though solid application overall. I would say that Duke is a high match, Cornell is a low reach/high match and Penn is a reach, though your teacher recs and essays matter a lot.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/898730-chances-duke-penn-cornell.html

Yep. That’s exactly why the president of our school’s pottery clubs got into Yale [matriculating], Columbia, Brown, and NYU!

Seriously, don’t underestimate art. It was far from his only area of involvement (president of Speech and Debate, co-captain of Science Olympiad and Quiz Bowl) but he sent in an art supplement that made his app stand out.

IC: if you love art, participate in art - and that goes for everything else, too. Even if you don’t go to an Ivy, you’ll leave HS with fond memories about what you did. =]
