Hey everyone! I am a junior at the best high school in Kansas. I have a 3.53 GPA unweighted however I have a 4.1 GPA weighted. I have over 1700 hours of community service, Varsity tennis for 3 years, FBLA national qualifier (president of club at school), DECA International Qualifier( vp of club at school) , Orchestra 4 years, president of Orchestra club, All district all state 3 years in a row, 1's at State solo and ensemble festival, and I am the CEO of a startup. My SAT score is a 2150 (based on PSAT) and I am potential National Merit. Im hoping to get my SAT to a 2300+. My top schools are UVA, UT austin, Michigan-Ross, and UNC chapel hill. I am not top 10 percent. My weighted GPA puts me more like the top 15 percent. I have a very rigorous schedule, and will have compiled 17 AP/Honors classes! My dream school is UT. Im looking to major in accounting and finance. Chance me? Also if there are any other schools you would suggest for my intended major, just suggest those!

Thanks! and if you post the link, I will chance back.

Ok, I guess I will start it off. Your GPA, Unweighted is less than satisfactory, its great that you are challenging yourself with 17 APs but you should not sacrifice quality for quantity. That being said, you SHOULD NOT base your “expected sat” score on the PSAT. Focus on getting that score and then post it on CC. Not to totally dish on you, the EC resume you have compiled seems depth ridden and polished. Most of the schools you have mentioned will probably be low reaches for you, I would be surprised if you didnt get into at least one of them. Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1317220-chance-me-my-college-choices.html

Thanks! What about UT Austin? Do I have a good chance of getting in?!?!

Your schedule is very rigorous, which is good, but like the poster above said you should not overload and take your GPA down. If switching out of 2 APs would bring your GPA up, I would do it if I were you. You have a good shot at UT I think, the others are a little tougher. But with a 2300+ like you said, things become a lot easier.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1324466-my-gpa-too-low-these-schools.html

Awesome thanks! UT for business would be a dream for me

Your ECs rock. They are consistent, and you have demonstrated leadership and commitment to all of them.

Your GPA and class rank- yeah, I’d raise that. But if you do well on the SAT, and especially if you apply early, I don’t see why not you would not get into some of those schools.

(Chance me!!!)

Thanks! Also I will be applying to UVA in state as my mother lives there. Therefore I will be in the in state applicant pool. Does this increase my chances at UVA quite a bit?

I’d say that within 10% is usually a good measure for class rank, but you’re within striking distance. Your EC’s are fantastic, and your SAT will be very important. Btw 215 is not National Merit Scholar, it gives you recognition, though. You’re not a resident of VA, so I don’t think you’d be considered in-state, but I’m not in the same situation so don’t take my word for it absolutely.

Despite outstanding EC’s, you’re clearly missing any experience in a major that you’d be interested in. Internships, volunteer work, etc would be vital to strengthening and giving your app one last major push.

UVA- Low reach
UT Austin-High match
Michigan-Ross-Reach
UNC Chapel Hill- Low reach

Chance me?

Really good ECs!

I don’t know about UVA or M-R, but I think you’ll probably get into UT and probably UNC-CH, too. It might be a little harder though since you are out of state.

I called UVA today an since my mom pays out of state taxes, I’ll be in the in state applicant pool. And isn’t my community service plenty? 1700 hours, and have been top 5 percent of community service the past 3 years in the state of Kansas.

Sorry, I missed the community service part. Nevermind lol

No worries! Anyone else have opinions?

Help a fellow CCer!!! Bump bump bump
