Chance me? I'll chance you!

Hi, I was wondering if I could get a little feed off of this post.

I just finished my sophomore year of high school with a 3.34 gpa including my freshman year. *I have two credits of French, honors Us History/Honors World History, honors English 9/Honors English 10, honors Algebra 1/Honors Geometry, Honors Physical Science/Honors Biology, Health, and elective classes of course. *I also received a score of 19 on the ACT, beginning of my sophomore year. *I did not know any geometry or trigonometry still receiving a 28 on the Math section. *But I received a 14 on reading, so it equaled out. *

I also played hockey my freshman year, football and tennis my sophomore year, and golf and possibly basketball this upcoming school year. *I also was in the Earth Science Club my Freshman year. *I also have a job at a local grocery store and go to a Christian church and volunteer a lot. *I also am a very high character guy and anyone who would type a recommendation about me, would be a positive as well.

I am taking Algebra 2, Pre-calc, Anatomy, Chemistry, Govenrnment, Current events, and English 11 this year. *I am also scheduled to be taking Physics, Calculus, English 12, Accounting, other electives, and maybe Spanish 1 my senior year.

Obviously the difficulty of classes took, and extra circular activities are there, but with not that impressive of a gpa, and a weak ACT score, which I plan to take again, do I look like I'm in good shape to attend The Ohio State University?

Thanks a lot!

Volunteer at a homeless shelter. It looks better than your church. And do it on a weekly or even daily basis.

Join as many clubs as you can and take leadership positions in those clubs.

Take AP classes and try to take dual credit college courses if you can.

I sorta agree with the above post. The only thing I strongly disagree with is “Join as many clubs as you can…” that would just make you seem desperate in my opinion, join clubs that are relevant to your intended major. If you don’t have a major in mind yet join clubs that are relevant to your passions! This will make it much easier to confidently write this down on a application and perhaps it will be such a great experience you’ll want to write your essay about it! Just remember, quality over quantity and be effective and concise!

But does it look like I have a good chance other than the ACT score?

to be totally honest, that ACT is really going to hurt you. I’d try the SAT if I were you- some people do a lot better on one test than the other! you seem pretty well rounded, and the best way to improve your list of ECs is to pursue something that you’re really truly passionate about. best of luck!

chance me back?

Your GPA is a little low, and your ACT is really low. But I don’t know if it’s because you don’t know the info, or because you don’t test well. Maybe you should try the SAT’s. You don’t have many EC’s, quality or quantity. But Ohio State’s not that selective, so I don’t know if that’s too big of a deal. I’d just work on your GPA a bit, bring up your scores, and try to get more involved. Then I think you’d stand a good chance.
