Chance Me!! I'm a Junior living in Honduras who wants to go to Andover or Choate

Your stats are great! Make sure you are ready for your interviews, those are probably the most important part. You sound like a perfact match for these schools. Your grades are very good, exspecially since you are taking honors. Keep up the good work! Good luck! p.s. be careful because you don’t want to post all of your information on a public site also, admission officers read posts on this site and can easily match posts with canidates.

:) thank you. Yeah, I’m planning on touring New England in the beginning of January, in which Im going to visit all the schools and interview with them. But, what you said about admissions officers reading the posts, is that true? Cause that got me pretty worried. Would that affect my chances in getting into any of the schools?

damn. i wish mine was as good as yours. >.<

haha, thanks :D

Oh, Latinlad –> I think your confused. I’m not taking Honor classes (my school doesn’t have honor classes :()

I got my SSAT score back!!! I got an 85%!!! annd, I also got my report card for 10th grade!!! I’m doing really good this year!!! All A’s, literally!!! Annd, I’m almost done with my applications!! Wooohooo!!

Wait, I have a question. On my SSAT, I received a 2043. Does that translate to an 85%?

It should say on the report what the percentile is.
That’s so wierd, I got my report card today with…All A’s too!!!
I just am waiting for my ssat scores. I really hope they come tommorow.

Where did you live in Nigeria!?!
Sorry this has nothing to do with ur chances but im from Nigeria so i thought that was really cool :)

UrbanFlop –> I went through my score report and it says my total percentile was 54%?!?!?!??!, which sucks. But, the total score was 2043, out of 2400 possible points. Wouldn’t that translate to 85%? How do you read the SSAT scores? Im confused :'(

Hopin411–> Yeah I lived in Lagos!!! Waiit, where do you live, Lagos?? oor…Abuja?? Annd, what boarding school’s are you applying to?

Josh, the SSAT scores aren’t like normal test scores: It’s not points right/total points. If you have a 54%, it means you did better than 54% of the people who took the SSAT.

Jason–> So, I actually did pretty horrible on the test?? :‘( A 53% is like, completely average!!! Fudge…thats horrible :’(

Cool!!! I actually live in the states now but i was born in Jos, ive been to Lagos and Abuja tho
im hoping to apply to Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter, St. Paul and Choate, im not sure of my chances tho :/

Hahhaa, that’s funny; it really is a small world :stuck_out_tongue: I’m applying to Choate, Taft, Middlesex, Northfield Mount Herman, and St. Marks. I thought my chances were high…until I received my SSAT score back. I did horrible :‘( What grade are you going to be applying to? I’m a Junior, so that also slims down my chances :’(

Here is what helped me the most.
-Memorize 50 words everyday until you’ve reached about 800 or so.
-Read newspaper articles EVERYDAY.
-Get your hands on some SSAT math problems and solve them like it’s the actual test.
-Take practice quizzes.
Hope you see positive outcome on the December SSAT!

I know right! Im sorry :(, Im applying for 11th grade
I would study the SSAT handbook thing, did they send u one? cuz i studied it and took the practice test inside and that helped. i also googled SSAT help/practice or something like that and some of the stuff i found helped :stuck_out_tongue:
jasony0325: do you think u could chance me?

Jason –> I think its already too late to register for the December test. You have to register a month in advance, which means its already too late. I actually bought an SSAT Practice Book from the Princeton Review, and I studied it for 4 months straight…I just dont see how I got a 54%…I mean, I got a 2043, but the schools don;t look at that. I did 54% better than most 10th Grade Males, and that is what they care about; it makes it easier to compare you to other applicants or something :frowning: But, whatever. I’m almost done with most of my applications, so I guess I’ll just continue the application process. :S

@Josh Byron, responding to your question from a while back: statistically, you would be more likely to get in as a repeat sophomore instead of a junior. there are 20 to 30 new sophomores this year but only 6 new juniors. also, junior year itself is hard, so transitioning to a new school and being a new junior at the same time isnt always so fun. i would talk to the admissions office if i were you.
and yes, i like middlesex very much. it is hard work yet fun, and it is a great school. i definately made the right decision. if you have any more questions, just ask.

peab2011 –> I don’t think I’m going to repeat sophomore year. I mean, if I repeat, not only would my parents have to pay for one extra year of boarding school, but its really just not worth it. I am currently at a pretty good school with good grades; and if i repeat, I’d just be wasting a year of my life. And, if i do repeat, I’d be taking the same classes as all the other Juniors would. But, once I reach Senior year, what classes would I take? There are only so much classes one can take…

ey i got my ssat results back too but bbest things i suggest is just study alot of vocab nd do alot of math and reading no offense ive know friends with perfect stats but fail b.c of ssat

JoshByron,
I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but 53% for SSAT will really bring you down, especially since you’re a junior, to the point where it will be very very hard to get accepted now. But, hey from our point of view, Admissions is a crapshoot, isn’t it.
But on the other hand, you can still register for dec. SSAT but you have to pay a late fee.
