Attending an Ivy had always been my dream, but I’m still expecting a rejection letter lol. I know no matter what I do, getting rejected is always possible, but I’m just hoping to improve my chances. So I’m going to be a junior this fall, so here are my stats so far:
Current GPA: 4.6(w) 3.85(UW)
My school calculates unweighted GPA differently. Usually when people get an A or A+, they get a unweighted GPA of 4.0, but for our school an A+ is a 4.0 while an A is a 3.85 lol…
Ethnicity: Asian. Born in US. Live near Boston area.
Current Rank: 5/449
I took the SAT for the first time and got: 1500 (I will take it a second time in the spring)
I havent taken the SAT Subject tests, I’ll take them in the spring: Math II and Biology M
AP I’ve taken:
Freshman year: none since not allowed
Sophomore year: APUSH, AP Seminar (aiming for capstone)
Junior Year: AP Physics, AP Lang, AP Research, AP Calc AB, AP World, AP Stats
Senior year: AP Spanish, AP Gov, AP Psychology, AP Environmental Science, AP Economics, AP Calc BC
(If everything goes as planned, I would have taken 14 AP classes by the end of senior year)
EssaY: prob about a time where I had to translate eng to manderin while my sis was sick at the hospital and how living in a family that neither of your parents speak english very well was kinda difficult.
Extracurriculars: (i don’t play an instrument or play sports):
1.) Founder and VP of science national honor society:
We never had an SNHS in our school and I don’t believe we ever had one in our city, my friend and I decided to create this club. We often do volunteer at local hospitals or just any science related events. At the end of the year we conduct science fairs. Sometimes we even conduct fun lab activities at middle schools. We do fundraising mainly for the ACS Research. Our purpose is to mainly bring those who are interested in the science field to bring awareness of the scientific aspect of our society. Projects: Planting plants (gardening) at local middle school garden and having recycling bins in our cafe.
2.) Active member of ACE (Alliance for Climate Education)
This is not an in-school club. Basically this is an organization to gather youth to make a difference in addressing about global warming. I’ve only recently joined it, and so far, we have a lot of events during the week and summer. i was also thinking of merging this with SNHS such as creating global warming for projects.
3.) President of Relay for Life
This club is mainly focused on cancer. Our biggest event of the year is the Tufts University Overnight walk, where all the “Relay for Life” members are gathered to fight against cancer. Throughout the year we fundraiser money for cancer patients through bake sales or even craft. This year we raised 1K while may not be a huge accomplishment to some, but I personally think this is a huge step for the whole club. I’m hoping to raise up to 2K next year.
4.) BioBuilder
This is a 6-week session held during the school year that I am definitely going to be doing next year. My friend done it and she said it was a lot of fun since there was a lot of hands-on lab experiments. The program is held during April I believe and it’s at MIT. I’m hoping to gain more experience through the program.
5.) Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
This is a 6-week volunteering program which I was going to go this summer but it was past the deadline, so I’m going to do next summer. I’m very hoping as volunteers, we can really make a very real difference on cancer.
6.) BioSequencing at Tufts
Now this summer program is going to be something I’m doing this summer. It’s a 6-week program in which I will have the opportunity to learn important molecular biology and genetics laboratory techniques, work with a next-generation DNA sequencer, and use advanced computer technology to gather and make sense of the data.
7.) President of Interact Club
This is mainly a volunteering club. We often hold food drives for those in need. We volunteer at local libraries and festivals in our community. We perform at least two projects a year, which are both mainly servicing the community. This year, we held food drives in our local community for those in need. Both the officers and advisor found the experience to be very rewarding since so many people came.
8.) Founder and president of Culture Connection
This club is going to be officially launched this fall. This club is mainly to celebrate the Chinese culture. We collaborate with the Chinese Culture Connection which is a non-profit organization where we tutor kids but also teach them their Chinese heritage. We hold ceremonies, end of the year festivals and volunteer for culture related events. We don’t want to just solely focus on the Chinese culture, but also have others celebrate their own culture as well. This is one of the club that I’m most passionate in. I was also able to show some of my artwork to the local chinese traditional artists and I was able to hang it in our local gallery, which was kinda cool.
9.) Active member of NHS
Need I say more? XD The society plays a huge role in the school where we all work together to make the community become a better place. We hold induction nights, make projects, fundraising and volunteer. We do a lot of community service in our community, but since it is so common in everyone’s application, I was wondering if I should still put it there lol.
10.) Active member of Zonta Club
The club is mainly focused on feminism. I’ve joined the club this year and we have a huge event in our local city hall where we got to meet the mayor which was a huge honor. Zonta International is a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. Zonta International envisions a world in which women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential.
So yeah. I didn’t win any national awards lol but I am definitely interested in the things I’m doing. i didnt really list them in any specific order though. BUt I was wondering if I should take some out since I dont want to seem like I’m just putting everything there just so I can have 10, which i am not. So, I was wondering if I could get some feedback? Thanks, sorry if there were so many typos.
