Chance me? International from Japan!

GPA: About 3.8 (upward trend)
ACT: Comp 29 - Eng 35, Math 25, Sci 25, Reading 31
AP: Bio & Stat. The school I attended in 9th and 10th grade didn't offer AP.
EC: 2 years Tutor (1 volunteer & 1 paid), Volleyball 3 years, Track 1 year, Robotics 1 year, Book club 2 years, Student council 1 year, Futsal 2 years
Very good recommendations, good-ish essay, first languages: Japanese & English

Yes I know it's not very good but it's okay right?

I'm applying to:
Hofstra University (EA)
New York University
Boston University
Fordham
University of Connecticut
American University
CUNY Baruch
University of Maryland

What are my chances of getting into these colleges? Are these too much of a reach? Are there any good safety schools for me that you'd recommend? Thanks guys!

Hi, 2 questions: is your GPA weighted, and what’s your intended major?

UConn: Safety
Hofstra EA: Safety
CUNY Baruch: Safety
UMD: Match
American: Match
Fordham: Match
BU: Match
NYU: Reach

YuiHirasawa, my GPA is unweighted, probably about 3.9 if weighted

I think you have a decent chance. Some of those will be good matches and safeties, and most of them love international students. What’s your major? Will you need financial aid?

Did you flunk your way out of the NCTUA? Is that test otherwise too high-pressure for you? Or are Japanese universities too cutthroat for you?

oh btw I’m a U.S. citizen so I’m not applying as an international student!

I’m trying to major in Psychology (just like every other girl lol). I want financial aid but I haven’t gotten my social security number yet so I’m probably not going to apply for it…

What’s your budget?
It doesn"t matter what you “want”, financial aid is based on need as defined by the college - each college decides what your need is, then they decide whether they meet it. As a result, there’s often a big gap between what your parents can pay and what the college thinks they can pay.
Have you talked “money” with your parents? What’s their budget? Have you run the Net Price Calculators and checked that the cost of the college for your family is within budget?
Merit aid depends on test scores (essentially) and on EC’s/GPA. Each university decides on the thresholds and the amounts, but those aren’t related to how much your family makes. However, many universities want you to fill out FAFSA to get merit money (even if you don’t get any financial aid from the institution or the federal government).
FAFSA is in January so hopefully you’ll have you SSN by then.
Most financial aid comes from the college, then comes from the federal government and the State.

Hofstra University (EA)= safety
New York University= reach
Boston University = high match
Fordham = high match
University of Connecticut = match
American University = match
CUNY Baruch = safety
University of Maryland = match
