Hello, this is a guy from India and here are the ones that I applied to RD- Princeton University, Bates College, University of Richmond, Franklin & Marshall College, Trinity College.
Details below-
SAT 1 - 2080(CR=630, M=800, W=650)
SAT 2 - Math-1=750, Physics=650
TOEFL iBT = 109
School doesn’t use GPA or ranking system.
Grades are fairly good, top 10% of class.
Recommendations- Quite strong.
Essays- Fairly satisfied with them.
Require almost full financial aid.
ECs - Been an amateur athlete(sprinter) till 10th grade, won various competitions at district/state levels.
Interviews- Only had one with Princeton and that went great.
That SAT is very low for Princeton. Your SAT II is also far below-average. Your extracurriculars are terrible by Ivy League standards-if you only list a single sport, with nothing else under your ECs, it would have to be one in which you’ve represented your country at the Olympics.
To top it off, you need full financial aid, and you’re applying from India where there are hundreds (or even thousands) of applicants with 2400 on the SAT, 800 on the SAT IIs, grades in the top 1% of their class, and much better extracurriculars. I don’t want to say that you have no chance, but your chances aren’t much better than 0 at Princeton.
At the U of Richmond and Franklin and Marshall, the same issues apply, although to a lesser extent. You’d still need better standardized test scores to be a strong candidate, but mostly you just don’t have the extracurriculars.
I don’t know enough about Bates or Trinity to comment.
“if you only list a single sport, with nothing else under your ECs, it would have to be one in which you’ve represented your country at the Olympics.”
Let’s not exagerate shall we.
I do agree though that your scores are low for princeton and being indian doesn’t help. The rest i don’t know. If you are full pay your chances will go up in general for US universities.
Your chances for ivy league are not 0 but not better than their actual accpetance rate. But don’t lose hope, ivy leagues are overrated anyways. You can still get into many great schools with these scores.
@meriks I wouldn’t write this if OP was an applicant in the US. But international admissions are ridiculously competitive. The entire world wants the 150-200 spots that a university has for internationals, and you need to be one of the best applicants in your country to have a real chance. Given the SAT scores and grades, this person isn’t getting into Princeton on academics. The extracurriculars would need to be spectacular to even give OP a chance. And, since the only one listed is sprinting, that needs to be absolutely exceptional. If not Olympic-caliber, one would at least have to be a finalist for a spot on India’s national track team. I don’t think I am exaggerating all that much.
Also, OP stated that he needs almost full financial aid. So, definitely not full pay. Another reason that his portfolio would need to be exceptional for Princeton.
@NotVerySmart Didn’t see he needed financial aid, sorry.
indiansheldon, sorry i don’t know anything about the other schools so except from the average admitted stats that everyone can find on the internet i can’t tell you much.
