CHANCE ME! Intl, ED @ BU

An international student from China, I’m now about to start my senior year at a high school in Dallas, Texas.
I’ve stayed in Texas since my junior year, during which I spent my first semester at a tiny protestant school in Fort Worth, and then transferred to one of the largest Catholic high schools in Texas.

Apparently, I’m mostly STEM-oriented. As for major, undecided yet…Mainly looking at Biomed-engineering

Going to apply early decision to increase my chance… :)

Another thing, I’m going to apply for financial aid, though I know it reduces my chance anywhere. Plus I don’t have green card or citizenship, so I’m still considered international, right?

Academics:
i). When I was still in China, 9-10th grade:
National Math Contest, 2nd place
National Science Contest, regional 2nd place in chemistry, 3rd place in physics
Academic team
No GPA given

ii). After I came to the U.S., 11th grade (I’m now starting my 12th grade):
800s on SAT Chem, Physics, Math level2
5s on AP Chem, AP Cal AB, AP Physics C mechanics, a 3 on AP Physics electromagnetism, and thus received AP scholar award with distinction.
32 on ACT (Will retake)
SAT: (too pathetic to post here, Will retake)
4th place at school, in Continental Math League Calculus Contest. (only a pathetic 4th place due to the fact that this contest wasn’t held at the school I transferred from)
GPA 4.0 for now

ECs:
i). When I was still in China, 9-10th grade:
Model UN
English Honor Society
School Spring Play

ii). After I came to the U.S., 11th grade (I’m about to start my 12th grade):
Vice-president of Mu Alpha Theta
School Ambassador
Sergeant at Arms of school math team
Also a member of Marching band, men’s ensemble, National Honor Society, Robotics Club

About 100 service hours (only during last 3 semesters here in the states)

THANK YOU!!!

BU seems like a safety for you, but with a low SAT score it’s probably a match for you. They tend to accept people with high GPAs and really low SATs. Just retake the SAT. If you can get 2000-2100+, then you might as well apply to BU regular. BU is need blind for ED and I guess you can apply for merit aid. If you’re not a US citizen then you’re not qualified for financial aid. Try finding other engineering schools with high endowments? For example… RPI?

Thanks a lot, aznrobot9, your advice for me is very constructive …I didn’t even look at the fact that BU doesn’t provide int’l scholarship before u reminded me…this way, I don’t have the luck for BU anymore…

Well BU offers merit aid and same with lots of other schools. Research about other schools that can give you merit aid. I think that you have very impressive high school stats and you can probably go to higher ranking public universities. Have you considered the UCs? UMich? UV? Even UT Austin. You should take a look at engineering programs at public universities if tuition is a problem. You can definitely go to better schools than BU.

Anyway most importantly you should talk to your counselor about this. Don’t take my info for granted since I’m not an admissions officer.
