alright everyone I've become very interested in LSU to major in Petroleum Engineering. I was curious what my chances were of getting admitted as an OOS student with IS tuition.

You meet the minimum requirements for admission to LSU. Students are admitted to the College of Engineering after freshman year, pending an acceptable GPA.

Last year, OOS students qualified for merit scholarships that waived 100% of OOS fees with a 3.0 GPA and 1250 CR/M SAT (can’t remember what the ACT equivalent was). The same GPA and 1170 on the SAT qualified for a waiver of half of the OOS fees.

The LSU website currently states that all scholarships are being reviewed by the university and that information for the 2011 academic year will be released in late summer. The university is facing a huge budget shortfall; in response to that, I wonder whether LSU may restrict the number of merit scholarships available by raising the minimum qualifications.

^ I asked them today. Damn it takes so long to contact them at financial services. But anyways, they transferred me to the PetE dept. and said you should apply as soon as possible, preferably before Nov. 15.

It really doesn’t matter when you apply. As Psi said, you are admitted to the program after Freshman year if your GPA meets the requirements. You will be admitted directly into the Freshman College at first. I believe business is the only school you can get a direct admit into.
