If you guys would like me to be more descriptive about something just let me know.

So...yeah I mean it doesn't look like a lot in text but my life was dedicated to music since I had thought for the longest time I was going to be a professional musician. Simply put things changed around sophomore/junior year, I am no longer pursuing music as my professional career, and now I'm really trying to pursue academic-related stuff (which is why I took on more AP classes junior year). I am applying to UW, but with just two particular strengths and nothing else is it likely that as an out of state student I will get in?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. :)

Actually you look like a VERY STRONG candidate. Good GPA and SAT scores. Your courseload is very rigorous (maybe too much haha). And with the economic problem here, the UW is accepting more Out of State students. Your ECs are also a plus. Just write a good essay and you’ll be in.

I would say you are a very competitive candidate.

With all your ECs/Honors, this is how I’d break them down into the 5 categories you write about:
Music
-Everything you’ve done. You’re incredibly passionate about music, otherwise you would never have gotten to where you are (parental pushing can do so much…)
National Honors Society
Martial Arts (Taekwondo)
Tennis
Volunteer Work:
-hospital, a homeless shelter, and my church as a guitarist (Sums up to a little over 200 hours)

I would even dedicate a full personal statement to music, if you can figure out how to tie that in with the prompt.

I feel like the only reason you’d worry about OOS having more preference is if you completely bomb your essays. :)

wow thanks guys. and speedsolver i actually did change my resume so there is a music section! yeah since music is essentially my life there’s really no other option for me except to write about music! lol. thanks for the advice guys i really appreciate it. :)
