Brown is my dream college. I understand that HYPSM are pretty much unattainable. I want to major in pre-med/neuroscience and eventually become a neurosurgeon.

So, chance me!

All of this as a junior? Don’t start thinking of HYPSM as unattainable; you have a great record and (despite my disdain for students pretending to know chances) and a great shot at being admitted to a top school! Keep up the GPA and make sure you’re in the top 5% of your class (if possible top 1-2). While at NIH this summer, make sure to build a relationship with an advisor; that may be a very helpful recommendation down the road. Other than that, you have a great mix of well-roundedness with sports, music, and languages, a clear passion for neuroscience with a senior research project and a summer internship, and standout academics with great objective scores and a very tough curriculum. Don’t be discouraged if you face trouble down the road because you deserve to be confident in yourself : )

What’s your HS GPA?

Your test scores look great, but Berkeley does not weigh them as much as they do high school GPA.

Although I know Brown is your dream school, Johns Hopkins might be a better fit towards your major- just a thought. (Although I know what it’s like to be in love with a college- it’s hard to let it go! :D)

Your GPA, SAT I and II scores, and AP scores are what’s the norm for the schools you want to go to. Your EC’s are good. A good range, but not too scattered with a visible focus on your major. NIH and Intel could really help your chances, as a prize from Intel or a LoR from NIH makes your app stand out in a sea of high SAT scores and perfect GPAs.

Nothing is unattainable, so don’t rule out anything! HYPSM are all possible. So are Brown, Johns Hopkins, Georgetown… You probably have the highest chance of acceptance at Cal. Apply to anything you want; you’ll be surprised at where you can get accepted if you make yourself interesting. Good luck :)

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1304596-chance-me-ill-chance-back-2.html

STEM female and USAMO!
I think you have decent chances at EVERY college in the country.

I will be surprised if you don’t get into 3-4 top 10 colleges.

RML

I don’t think she has to worry about Berkeley.

Yeah, don’t see why you pass of HYPSM as unattainable - with your qualifications, everything is fair game. As 20more indicates, being talented in math as a female is a bit of a hook given the disproportionate representation of males who excel in math. Academically you’re set; you go to school that every top school accepts students from every year and your SATs/gpa are solid. And in terms of ECs you demonstrate a solid amount of leadership (albeit, your activities are pretty Asian…but you seemed to have done well in them). Hopefully you can secure awards from your research. JHU, Berkley, Georgetown should almost be safeties. You have very good chances at MIT, HYPS are a little trickier but you nonetheless have a very solid shot at each as well as Brown (btw ED Brown doesn’t give an advantage so I would go for Early action at a Princeton or Harvard or MIT). Good luck.

Wow, four languages? I only know two, half-fluently haha. I bow to you. xD

Your SAT (and II) scores are great, you show your dedication to neuroscience, you show leadership through the clubs you founded, and you have a strong academic record. Plus you are still only a junior, so HYP are not unattainable.

And by the way I think it’s really cool that you want to major in neuroscience. I’m currently a sophomore and I plan to work hard so I can apply to MIT, Columbia, UPENN and Johns Hopkins as a dual biology/neuroscience major, then become a neurosurgeon too! Good luck! n__n
