Chance me? Ivies

Got my second SAT scores in today. Figured I should ask for some chances.

Hopefully that's enough information, if not I'll be happy to provide anything else that will help that I have not listed. I also have my accuplacer and TAKS scores if that will help any. Advice for how to improve is also appreciated!

So now for the schools:
Cornell University
UPenn
University of California Davis
Colorado State University
North Carolina State University
Ohio State University
Texas A&M - College Station

Cornell University-reach
UPenn-reach
University of California Davis-match
Colorado State University-safety
North Carolina State University-safety
Ohio State University-low match
Texas A&M - College Station-low match

I don’t really know enough about your schools listed that aren’t Ivy League to give you an exact estimate of what I’d say your chances are, but based on my limited knowledge and the information you provide I believe you could easily get in to all those listed.
Cornell and UPenn aren’t guarantees for anybody obviously but as I’m sure you know being Hispanic helps a great deal.
Do you have Sat 2 scores? I know UPenn wants them, Cornell probably does. Also where are you from? I would say you have a shot, the top schools are so nit-picky though. Good luck and sorry I could not be more specific!

Thanks kickemoff, and yes. First time I took it was the 1990 listed, the one I took earlier this month was a 2120.

Also, I am from Texas. I knew I had forgotten to list my state. In retrospect, I don’t know why I had put TAMU on my list in my original post considering I have the top 10% rule and automatic academic admission going for me.

Also, just out of curiosity Derek (I assume that’s your name?), why would you say TAMU is a low-match compared to a match or even a safety school?

^Low match is between match and safety.

Oh alright, thank you Orchid. I had assumed it would have been the other way around, where “High match” comes between the two.

Low reach for Cornell. Reach for other ivies.
UPenn: reach
University of California Davis: high match
Colorado State University: low match
North Carolina State University: low match
Ohio State University: match
Texas A&M - College Station: low match

So to be clear, low reach would mean I’m close to a match, correct?

How would you recommend that I improve my chances of getting into the Ivies?

You didn’t answer the question about SAT II subject tests. I know Cornell requires them. Have you taken any? If not you will have to at the beginning of next year

Oh, I’m sorry, I had misread the question. I thought he had asked if I had two SAT scores. not SAT II scores. No, haven’t taken them yet. I plan to go into Agricultural/Life Sciences though which doesn’t require them. I still plan to take those next year, however.

Cornell University: Reach
UPenn: High Reach
University of California Davis: Low Match/ High Safety
Colorado State University: Safety
North Carolina State University: Low Match/ High Safety
Ohio State University: Match
Texas A&M - College Station: Match

Pretty good list you have, you seem realistic about your chances and have a well rounded list. Being hispanic for sure helps, and if you get that SAT across the 2000 threshold you might have a shot (albeit still a long one) at the ivies.

Thanks, I’ve been trying to formulate a solid list of colleges that I would like to attend while still being as realistic as possible. I am glad to know I have managed to do so!

Also, in my original post, I forgot to mention two more extracurriculars which may influence future chances some, albeit a small amount.

1) I am attending American Legion’s Texas Boys State this summer.
2) This isn’t huge, but under 4-H, I am also a part of “Leaders 4 Life” (learning parliamentary procedure) and we recently won districts and qualified for state. Sadly I can’t attend that competition since Boys State is the same week.

Cornell: Reach
UPenn: Reach
U California Davis: Low Match
Colorado State: Safety
North Carolina State: Low Match
Ohio State: Match
A&M: Match

Chance me back?
