Chance me? Ivys

I'm starting the application process right now, but I'm still debating what schools I should bother applying to. I know I will definitely apply to UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, and USC, but other than that, I'm throwing it up into the air for you guys to decide (possibly CalTech, Princeton, MIT, etc.). So without further ado...

I'm not quite sure what's supposed to go in these threads anymore, so if any more info is needed, just reply to this post and I'll provide it if possible.

Oh whoops I’m an Asian male, no legacy, mid-upper income bracket so no markoffs for me there. Worst demographic of all time FTW.

Guaranteed at all UCs

As for IVYs, any leadership stuff?
You’re definately going to get into cornell and if you apply to HYPMS, i’ll be willing to bet that you’ll get into at least one unless your essays are just not up to par.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/954601-hypsm-hopeful-chances.html</a></p>

In at all UCs.
USC safety.
CalTech match.
HYPSM high match/low reach.

Only thing I would add is what the person said above; whether you hold any leadership positions in your ECs?

I’ve been team captain for a robotics team in my 9th grade year, led two engineering teams to semifinal/national levels, respectively, in 11th grade, led the IT team at the place where I do volunteer work, and on the side, led some website projects for my school.

Yeah I’m hoping for at least one of HYPMS, more for bragging rights than anything because without a scholarship, there’s no way my parents can afford to send me to one of those (I have a younger brother that’s going to college two years after me) :</p>

Add on U of Chicago and Harvey Mudd to that list of colleges, but I think those would be safeties/matches unless I mess up really badly on one of those essays.

UChicago is a tricky school, it will be hard to chance. Assuming that you are from CA, you’re in at all of them. The lack of leadership will hurt, because you are an ORM and, frankly, there’s a lot of stellar Asians out there. Good luck.

Chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/957028-chance-please.html</a></p>

Bump. Can anybody else bring in new opinions?

What’s your family’s annual income?

About $150k before taxes, but we still have a $500k mortgage to get rid of D:

I wouldn’t worry too much about financial aid aspects too much at this point. If you want, do some research and you may be surprised by the FA opportunities available out there right now. Also, make sure to look into scholarships like Robert C. Byrd and Coca Cola Scholars.

You didn’t want to consider Stanford?

The thing with Stanford is that it has a long history of rejecting applicants from my school who are far more qualified than I am at the time of their application. The only ones who have made it into Stanford at my school in the last three years or so are (1) musical geniuses (2) people on athletic scholarships and (3) female engineers. I’ll definitely apply to Stanford, but I’m not expecting much from it :[
