Great Essay and Recommendations (Professor and Neurosurgeon)
My GPA is a little weak, but is it still worth applying?

Hi. I have a few questions to try and help you better. Are you going to be a senior this year? What are the rest of your classes? You have a lot of good looking volunteering, especially if you want to pursue a career in the medical field. Statistically speaking, your GPA and SAT Scores are on the lower end of admitted applicants, but your volunteering is spectacular and your extracurriculars are very good too. I feel that your essays and interview (if you choose to have one) will be very impressive because you seem to have a goal in mind that you are very passionate about. With schools of that caliber no one is a sure shot. If you can, try and improve the SAT Scores, and try to take the SAT Subject Tests. Chemistry and Biology subject tests will probably look best on your resume for what you are pursuing. Taking all of that into consideration with the excellent recommendations that you have, you should have a decent shot, but you should definitely apply to at least three or four more schools with higher admissions rates. Don’t get discouraged by the numbers, my brother got into Cornell, Dartmouth, and Georgetown with a 3.5 GPA. The key is showing the college your passion and interest so that they know you are not wasting their time.

Carnegie Mellon, I am going to be a senior this year. Bit if I improve my SATs, they dont take senior year GPA into consideration do they? That is only freshman, sophomore and junior year GPA. I have taken honors math, honors eng, honors global, academic eng junior year and academic math sophomore and junior year.

Am I completely hopeless because of my GPA? JHU and UPENN are what i consider my dream schools. =[

ideally, retake your SATs to at least a 2250 to be competitive. Your class rank will probably help. Make sure you pick teachers who will write glowing letters for you.

Your GPA isn’t low, but its not spectacular. Your SAT is too low for the ivy’s. You should retake or try the ACT. And consider taking at least two subject tests. You want to try to make yourself as competitive as possible. Yah ED would definitely increase your chances. Good Luck :)

Scores are a little low so you should retake them as soon as possible. Also i suggest taking the ACT. Although you may be a bit too late for that. However your EC’s (research, internships, doctor shadowing) will DEFINITELY help you a lot! You have a good chance if you early to Hopkins. Upenn and Columbia will be quite harder
